If you compare this graphic with the one using -- the result is the same, but there is a clear difference
in control points. As a result, combining .. with -- or --- makes a big difference. Here we
get a non--smooth connection between the curves and the straight line.

straight line and the rest of the curve.

So far, we have joined the four points as one path. Alternatively, we can constrict subpaths and
connect them using the ampersand symbol, &.

closed but is in fact open.
