CHAPTER SIXTHEOLOGICAL MOTIFS OF MATTHEW 6:19-346.1 IntroductionThe previous four chapters of this thesis conducted an analysis of the historicalcontext of the text as well as an examination of the literary setting of the text. Thischapter will conduct an examination of the theological motifs and themes found inMatthew 6:19-34 in order to asses how they contribute to an overall understanding ofthe passage.The historical analysis, the literary analysis and the chapter at hand are workingtoward the goal of the next chapter. That is, to examine in light of the findings, whatMatthew 6:19-34 teaches the relationship between the Christian disciple to moneyshould be.There are several prominent theological themes/motifs which are found in Matthew6:19-34. The themes are as follows: Firstly, there is the theme of the Kingdom ofGod and God’s righteousness. This was seen in Matthew 6:33 where Jesus instructsHis disciples to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. These motifswhere briefly mentioned in the previous chapters, but will be explored in greaterdetail in this chapter. God’s kingdom and His righteousness will be explored underthe same section in this chapter, as the literary analyses showed that Jesus wasusing them synonymously.Secondly, there is the theological motif of the giver of the sermon.
