PBEAC meets AMDIP to review SOPsAn exclusive meeting <strong>of</strong> the Pakistan Business Education AccreditationCouncil (PBEAC), Higher Education Commission (HEC) <strong>of</strong> Pakistanwith Association <strong>of</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Development Institutions in Pakistan(AMDIP) was held in the <strong>UMT</strong> Boardroom on September 08, 2009 toreview the St<strong>and</strong>ard Operating Procedures (SOPs) <strong>of</strong> PBEAC. TheAMDIP was represented by Dr Zahoor Hasan <strong>and</strong> Dr Shaukat Ali Brahfrom LUMS while Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Dr Rashid Kausar, DrSarwar M Azhar, Dr Tashfeen Azhar, Dr Rauf Butt, A G Ghaffari <strong>and</strong>Ijaz Yusuf, represented <strong>UMT</strong> during the meeting. Dr Ehsan Malik,Director IBA Punjab <strong>University</strong> could not attend the meeting due to his<strong>of</strong>ficial engagements. Ahtesham Ali Raja, Program Manager PBEACarrived from Islamabad to attend the meeting while Dr Mukhtar Ahmed<strong>and</strong> Sania Tufail joined the group in Lahore from Islamabad via videoconferencing.Ihtesham Raja shared a presentation detailing the mission<strong>and</strong> objectives <strong>of</strong> setting up PBEAC. Many important issues were raisedin the ensuing discussion as the experts gathered around the table came upwith various suggestions regarding improvements in the scope <strong>and</strong> functioning<strong>of</strong> PBEAC. The meeting concluded with the consensus view that a10-12 member working group <strong>of</strong> senior pr<strong>of</strong>essors <strong>and</strong> academiciansfrom top business schools across Pakistan should be m<strong>and</strong>ated to reviewthe PBEAC SOPs. The importance <strong>of</strong> the involvement <strong>of</strong> major accreditingbodies such as EQUIS <strong>and</strong> SAQS was also stressed as this would givecredibility to the accreditation provided by PBEAC. Moreover, the participants<strong>of</strong> the meeting agreed that the consultative process would be improvedto bring about the structural changes required to make PBEAC astrong, viable <strong>and</strong> independent accreditation body.The Knowledge School (TKS)Network Conferences 2009Principals’ ConferenceThe TKS Principals’ Conference was held on December 19, 2009 in the<strong>UMT</strong> Campus. Curriculum booklist for the future was at the top <strong>of</strong> theagenda. Others items included the upcoming admissions campaign, TKSNews, teacher development <strong>and</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> English speaking culture atthe school. All issues were discussed in detail <strong>and</strong> recommendation wereformulated accordingly. Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Chairman <strong>of</strong> TheKnowledge School (TKS) Network, sent a message from abroad for theTKS principals. The message was very well received <strong>and</strong> applauded.Principals’ Conference participantsdeliberating over various issuesParticipants <strong>of</strong> the meeting discussing SOPs<strong>of</strong> the Pakistan Business Education Accreditation Council (PBEAC)SMEDA representatives visit CENTINRepresentatives <strong>of</strong> the Small <strong>and</strong> Medium Enterprises DevelopmentAuthority (SMEDA) visited <strong>UMT</strong> on <strong>January</strong> 19, 2010. The group comprised<strong>of</strong> Sultan Tiwana, General Manager, B&SDS, SMEDA, RajaHassanien Javed, Manager Financial Services, <strong>and</strong> Mir Anwer, AssistantManager Industrial Information Network, SMEDA. They held ameeting with Khalil Muhammad, Director, Center for Entrepreneurship<strong>and</strong> Innovation (CENTIN). Important issues regarding future collaborationbetween SMEDA <strong>and</strong> CENTIN were discussed during the meeting.Later, Khalil Muhammad accompanied the guests for a tour <strong>of</strong> the campus.The visitors appreciated the state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art services at the InformationProcessing Center (IPC) <strong>and</strong> the wide range <strong>of</strong> books available at the<strong>UMT</strong> Library.Network Associates ConferenceThe Knowledge School Network (TKS) Network Associates Conferencewas held on October 15, 2009 in the <strong>UMT</strong> board room. The agenda itemsincluded corporate overview, curriculum, teacher development, schoolevaluation, school management <strong>and</strong> information system, marketing <strong>and</strong>br<strong>and</strong> promotion, quality <strong>of</strong> service from vendors, <strong>and</strong> mutual obligations.Two network associates <strong>of</strong> Omer Campus, Chishtian <strong>and</strong> JoharCampus, Lahore were awarded Certificate <strong>of</strong> Distinction for being exemplaryassociates.Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Chairman TKS, sent his message fromabroad. The Chairman urged the associates to remain focused on highideals guided by our religious dictates, moral values <strong>and</strong> social norms.
