Deliriouse rock group Delirious, which began as Cutting Edge, started in 1992 as a youth worship band at Arun CommunityChurch, a charismatic congregation in England that isassociated with the “Toronto Blessing,” otherwise known asthe “Laughing Revival.” [See e Pentecostal-CharismaticMovements, available from Way of Life Literature.] eirmusic was used widely in Laughing Revival churches such asthe Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship in Ontario and theBrownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida (ClivePrice, “A Delirious New Sound,” Charisma, December 1999,p. 65). eir song “I’ve Found Jesus” is a theme song at thecharismatic Teen Mania conferences. Delirious is at theforefront of the contemporary praise music phenomenon, having authored several popular praise songs, including “ICould Sing of Your Love Forever,” “e Happy Song,” and“Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?”By 2001, the group had sold more than one million recordsand was “considered by many to be the forerunners of themodern worship music movement” (Christianbook.com).e worldliness of Delirious is evident in their choice of“musical heroes,” which include “U2, Radiohead, Blur andother big British modern rockers” (CCM magazine, July 1999,p. 39). When the group played at Walt Disney World inOrlando, Florida, an observer noted that “crowds of believersand unbelievers alike dance with wild abandon” to their rocksongs. “As one non-Christian told them once: ‘I’m not intoyour religion, but I love your music’” (Charisma, December1999, p. 64). It is obvious that Delirious’s rock music appealsto the flesh of unbelievers and cannot therefore be “spiritual.”Delirious’ 1999 Mezzamorphis album includes the song “It’sOK,” which contains crude swearing.ough they claim that they are playing rock music toreach the world for Christ, they also admit that they can dothis without a clear Bible message in their songs.81
