Check out the lyrics whenthe record is played.”dc Talk is mocking biblical fundamentalists (“hyper fundi”)who are opposed to the use of rock music. ey are sayingthat only the message matter, but the fact is that the messageis frequently abstract. Let’s “check out the lyrics” of their song“Mind’s Eye”—“You know what I’m going through/ I know (that) it’s true/Cause you’ve stood in my shoes/ Desire’s inside of me/ But, it’shard to believe/ In what you cannot see/ Can you catch thewind? Ifthe song is about Jesus, what Jesus? e true Jesus of the Bibleor one of the myriad of false christs in the hearts and lives ofthose who hear dc Talk’s music? e song speaks of livingeternally, but there is no clear gospel message so that thelistener can know how to have eternal life. In fact, this dc Talksong could just as well be about a human lover.
