She hassold two million albums and has further influence throughmovies and books. She says, “I’ve always liked rock music. ... I feel very calledand passionate for a rock/pop audience” (“Rebecca GetsReal,” Christianity Today, 2005).At the beginning of her music career she opened shows forCarman.St. James starred as Mary Magdalene in !Hero, the musicalrock opera. !Hero depicts Jesus as a cool black man. e LastSupper is a barbecue party and “Jesus” is crucified on a citystreet sign.In 2006, St. James recorded the theme song for theecumenical National Day of Prayer.St. James admits that she has been deeply influenced by C.S.Lewis and her song “Shadowlands” is based on his work. (Seethe free eBook C.S. Lewis and Evangelicals Today at the Wayof Life web site -- www.wayoflife.org.)When Pope John Paul II visited the United States inJanuary 1999, St. James was one of the CCM musicians whojoined hands with hundreds of thousands of Catholics towelcome him at a Catholic youth rally (CCM Magazine, April1999, p. 12).In an interview in 2008 St. James recommended e RoadLess Travelled by New Ager M. Scott Peck (“Rebecca St. JamesGoes Back to Work,” Jesusfreakhideout.com, April 22, 2008).Peck says “God wants us to become Himself (or Herself orItself). We are growing toward God. God is the ultimate goalof evolution” (e Road Less Traveled, 1978, p. 270).It is unconscionable that a Christian would recommendsuch an author and such a book in any sense whatsoever.Obviously she doesn’t recognize the demonic spirit of theNew Age.322
