When P.O.D. was asked, “Do you try to set a good example?Do you drink, smoke, do drugs, or swear, for instance?”Sonny replied: “No, see that’s what I’m talking about. osearen’t even issues, you know what I mean?” (Sonny, P.O.D.,www.zianet.com/straightout/pod_press.htm).In an interview in 2002, Traa of P.O.D. said: “Of course wedrink beer and we party. You don’t believe how oen we getthat question. People seem to have the misconception that wespend all our time on our knees praying, but I can assure you,we don’t. If there’s a party, we party!” (Circus, July 2002, p.22).Sonny criticized kids “who want to segregate themselvesfrom the rest of the world,” but the Bible warns, “Ye adulterersand adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the worldis enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend ofthe world is the enemy of God” (James 4:4).When Marcos Curiel le the band in February 2003, hetestified that P.O.D. is a party band and that he is tired ofpretending to be one thing for the fans and then actingdifferently behind the scenes. “I hate the facade of putting ona mask in front of fans and then behind the scenes acting likesomeone else. I just want to be myself all the time.” He said toP.O.D. fans, “Dude, what do you think P.O.D. does behind thescenes? Do you think they're angels?” (MTV News, Feb. 19,2003).P.O.D. guitarist Marcos stated their philosophy in thesewords: “Y’know, everyone is free to rock ass. at’s themessage we're giving. We’re not talking about religion, notsome crutch. When we get on stage, we go crazy, we’re likefour guys you should put in a mental hospital” (interviewwith Hwee Hwee Tan of Singapore, October 2002).P.O.D. does not warn about hell. In an interview in 2000,Sonny said, “We’re not passing out pamphlets that say ‘getyour life straight or you’re gonna burn in hell.’ e Bible saysit’s God’s love and kindness that leads people torepentance” (Guitar World, Oct 2000, p. 78).
