AsWimber laid hands on him, “He experienced suchsupernatural power that he had to call out for it to stop.”Wimber also gave a “word of knowledge” that Gumbel had agi of “telling others.” (See John Wimber and e Vineyard.)Hughes heads up Worship Central, which is an influentialinternational worship training and resource center. roughWorship Central the charismatic ecumenical philosophy isspread via worship music.Hughes has worked closely with the Soul Survivor youthmusic festivals, which is an outgrowth of the “New Wine”conferences. e name indicates its radical charismaticnature. countries is worldly and radically charismatic and ecumenicalin nature.Integrity has helped launch the ministries of some of themost influential contemporary worship musicians, such asDarlene Zschech, Lincoln Brewster, Don Moen, IsraelHoughton, and Paul Baloche.Integrity recorded an album at the Brownsville Assembly ofGod (home of the strange “Pensacola Outpouring”). DonMoen, the “creative director” for Integrity, described thepower of the Laughing Revival music in these words:“Because something is imparted when you listen to this tape.I don’t want it to sound spooky or mysterious, but there’ssomething powerful about embracing the music of therevival. e fire of the revival can stir in you even as youlisten to the songs that took place at the Brownsvillerevival” (“Don Moen Discusses Music at BrownsvilleAssembly,” Pentecostal Evangel, Assemblies of God,November 10, 1996).e “revival” to which he refers was not a biblical revival; itwas a “revival” in which people become drunk and staggeredabout and shook uncontrollably and fell down and wereunable to perform the most basic functions of life. e pastorat Brownsville, John Kilpatrick, testified that it took him ahalf hour just to put on his socks when he was drunk with theBrownsville spirit. He laid on the church platform for as longas four hours, unable to get up. His wife has been unable tocook their food or clean the house. Some people had to becarried out of the church. One mother lay on the platformuntil 1am in the morning “basking in the spirit” until anusher collected her neglected kids, took them home, and puther to bed. Whatever this “revival” is, it is not something thatconforms to Scripture. e Spirit of God doesn’t renderpastors incapable of tending their flocks or mothers, theirchildren.Yet Moen testifies that this “spirit” can be imparted throughIntegrity music.173
