John theapostle put a huge difference between Christian and secularwhen he stated: “And we know that we are of God, and thewhole world lieth in wickedness” (1 John 5:19).Fischer wants Christians to stop being trapped in “dogma,”but what is dogma? It is doctrine or teaching, which isprecisely why God gave His Word. e Bible is given fordoctrine (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Timothy was instructed tostand fast in the doctrine he had been taught by the apostleand to impart the exact same doctrine to others. “And thethings that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses,THE SAME commit thou to faithful men, who shall be ableto teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2). Timothy was to allowNO OTHER DOCTRINE (1 Timothy 1:3), which is thestrictest standard of doctrinal purity. e faith once deliveredto the saints is to be defended by every generation of believers(Jude 3). is means God’s people are to know the sounddoctrine of the Word of God and they are to pass it on tosucceeding generations and they are fight against anythingthat is contrary to it. ose who teach false doctrine are to bemarked and avoided (Romans 16:17).It is impossible to stand for sound doctrine without beingdeeply concerned about “getting the words right.” Doctrine isgiven to us in words, and it is taught and defended by words,and if those words are not right the doctrine is not right.107
