Unfortunately, skating is onlypossible in very cold winters but cycling can be done allyear long. A healthy activity, it does not emit any CO 2 to theenvironment. It is also very friendly to the wallet, especiallywith the soaring prices of petrol in the last months.During Earth Month 2012, IOI Loders Croklaan Europepromoted cycling as a green mode of transport to the office. To further help the environment, IOI Loders CroklaanEurope made a contribution to a tree planting “CyclingDays” project in the Philippines which is dedicated torestoration of nature and replanting of trees. To encouragepeople living close to the office to cycle, one tree per cyclingday was donated to the project and this went up to fourtrees for people who live more than 15 kilometres from theoffice.During the month of March, more than 50 people tookthe effort to cycle to the office resulting in a total of 271trees being donated to the project. Next to this, the effortsalso resulted in around 1,000 kilometres being covered viacycling. The winners were announced during a spectaculargala dinner held at the Dubai International Convention andExhibition Centre on the opening day of Gulfood on 19February 2012.IOI Loders Croklaan Asia submitted two entries for the2012 Gulfood Awards, namely Creamelt 500 (ice-creamapplication fat) for the Best New Health Food or BeverageIngredient category, and Creative Studio for the Best NewFood Service Innovation award category.Traditionally, lauric fats like coconut oil is used in thepreparation of ice-cream application. However coconut oilhas a high content of saturated fat of around 92%. Hydrogenatedfats can be used to replace coconut oil but they contain transfats which is more dangerous than saturated fat. With thegrowing concern on reducing saturated fat and trans fat inprocessed foods, IOI Loders Croklaan Asia’s Application &Technical team developed the low-SAFA, low-trans ice-creamapplication fat Creamelt 500 which led us to this victory.Creative Studio, on the other hand, enables food producersto bring new products to the market at a higher speed thusgiving them a competitive edge. The working team at Gulfoods 2012.A group discussion among staff, customers and agents at the exhibition.
