If in power, gradually reduce the throttle to IDLE.2. At a sufficient distance from the restriction, make a minimumbrake pipe reduction <strong>and</strong> actuate.3. Make further split reduction(s) as needed <strong>and</strong> actuate.4. When the speed is controlled, release the automatic brakes.5. As the train brakes release, keep the locomotive brakes releasedunless they are needed to avoid severe slack changes.NOTE: Before attempting a running release, consider thetrain makeup <strong>and</strong> speed.
