64 <strong>Train</strong> H<strong>and</strong>ling64.11.2 Starting a Reverse or Shoving MovementFollow these steps when starting a reverse or shoving movement:Level GradeAscending GradeDescending GradeDirection of Travel0.50% 0.50%A. Starting a Reverse or Shoving Movement—Scenario 1When starting a reverse or shoving movement on a level or ascendinggrade:1. Release the automatic brake <strong>and</strong> wait for all brakes to release<strong>and</strong> slack to adjust.2. Reduce the independent brake <strong>and</strong> use the lowest possiblethrottle position to start the movement.3. As speed increases, continue to reduce the independent brakeuntil it is fully released.4. If you notice a significant increase in the load meter or trainspeed slows without a change in throttle position, stop immediately<strong>and</strong> determine the cause.5.
