62 Operating Locomotive Equipment4. Make sure the engineer in charge of the locomotive movementreceives written notification of the non-complying locomotive (acopy of a non-complying locomotive tag meets this requirement).The engineer must inform all other crew members of thenon-complying unit <strong>and</strong> of any restrictions.EXCEPTION: Without meeting the above requirements, a noncomplyinglocomotive may be moved as a single locomotive ordead within a yard solely for repairs <strong>and</strong> at no more than10 MPH.62.2.9 Locomotive Is Not Safe To MoveIf you determine the locomotive is not safe to move:1. Notify the train dispatcher or other proper authority.2. Complete a non-complying tag <strong>and</strong> attach the tag to the isolationswitch of the non-complying locomotive. The tag must includethis information:• “Non-complying locomotive” written on the tag• Locomotive initials <strong>and</strong> number• Inspection location <strong>and</strong> date• Nature of the defect• Signature of the employee making the inspection62.3 Responding To Defects or Non-ComplyingConditions Found EnrouteIf defects or non-complying conditions on any locomotive unit arediscovered enroute, the engineer must complete the appropriateforms <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>le the locomotive properly to avoid unsafe movement.June 1, 1996 ARRC <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Brakes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Train</strong> H<strong>and</strong>ling Manual 62-13
