62 Operating Locomotive Equipment8. Cable <strong>and</strong> jumper connections between locomotives have goodplugs, receptacles, <strong>and</strong> terminals. Cables <strong>and</strong> insulation areintact. No part of the jumper cable is lying on the coupler or ishigher than the walkway platform. Unused jumper cables arestowed.C. Ground LevelSet h<strong>and</strong> brakes, if necessary, <strong>and</strong> walk around both sides of thelocomotive to make sure that:1. S<strong>and</strong> has been deposited on the rail in front of the lead wheels.2. Fuel tank is not leaking.3. No defects such as cracks <strong>and</strong> broken or missing parts are on the:• Locomotive trucks• Wheels• Gear cases• Draft gears4. Brake cylinder piston travel is sufficient to provide brake shoeclearance when the brakes are released, but does not exceed 6inches.5. Foundation brake rigging does not bind or foul.6. Brake shoes are secured <strong>and</strong> approximately in line with the treadof the wheel. Make sure the shoe has no obvious lips or overhangs.62.2.7 Complete the Inspection FormsA. Locomotive Daily Inspection <strong>and</strong> Trip Report (ARRC Form22-0105)Complete a Locomotive Daily Inspection <strong>and</strong> Trip Report for eachlocomotive inspected.1.
