62 Operating Locomotive Equipment12. Position electrical switches <strong>and</strong> control equipment in the cab forproper operation.13. Before each trip, verify that locomotive brakes <strong>and</strong> devices forregulating all pressures, including the automatic <strong>and</strong> independentbrake valves, operate as intended.62.2 Locomotive Daily InspectionTo comply with federal requirements, each locomotive in servicemust be inspected at least once during each calendar day. A calendarday is a 24-hour period from midnight to midnight.Locomotive engineers are responsible for ensuring that each locomotivein their charge is inspected each calendar day. Locomotiveengineers or other designated employees are considered qualified tomake the inspection.62.2.1 Locomotive Inspection FormsThe <strong>Alaska</strong> <strong>Railroad</strong> uses the following forms:1. The <strong>Alaska</strong> <strong>Railroad</strong> Daily Locomotive Inspection card(ARRC Form 22-0123P), also known as the locomotive cabcard. This form is completed by the employee who conducts thedaily inspection. It indicates the date, time, location, <strong>and</strong> nameof employee who made the inspection.
