Independent BrakeGlossaryA device used to operate the air brakes on a locomotive independentof the automatic brakes.Independent Pressure Switch (IPS)A device on a locomotive that cancels the extended range portionof dynamic braking or all dynamic braking when enough independentbrake cylinder pressure is applied. This switch preventsthe locomotive wheels from sliding because of excessive braking.Integrated Cab Electronics (ICE)The feature that uses computer-controlled display screens tointegrate the control st<strong>and</strong> functions with the operator-controlledelectronics.JackknifingWhen the center sill between two rail vehicles is excessivelymisaligned, or the coupler is angled sharply.
