half of which is rich in more than 2% cooper having the advantage of being sent for the melting process without the need of being enriched. The foreign investors are interested in Shkodra region because 70% of the gold and silver combined with cooper and polymetals of all Albania, is found here. Exploitation of non-metal minerals Companies from some European and Asian countries ask invest in: The calcareous sources (Postribë) There are 36.7 billiard tons of such reserves that can be used for cement production and can be found close to clay and silicon deposit in Drisht (used for clinker production). The source is in optimal exploitation conditions, few meters ' away from Kiri river bed , 5 km away from the city and 2.5 km away from the railway. The industrial tests prove that, besides the cement, over 500 brands of white cement (mixed with kaolin) and dehydrated limestone can be produced. The dolomite sources in Rasek Some companies of Eastern Europe have requested to start the exploitation of 4 million tons existing in Rasek. The intention is to produce bricks, dolomite panels and blocks to satisfy the needs of the refractory industry (castiron furnaces and cement kilns), to produce the mineral cotton (for hydro-isolations and as raw material for the textile industry) used as additional material for glass production. The Albitofire sources in Guri i Zi There are I million tons' of these reserves that serve the to 62

industrial production of coloured glass, telephone isolators and, used with the calcareous kaolins, that of white cement, grey slabs and tubes, and antiacid betons, etc. A consortium from Southeast Asia is willing to realise its project for the exploitation of the reserves. Kaolin Sources In Dedaj-Vig-Korth Pule exist 75% of the total found reserves in Albania. A European company is much interested to start their full exploitation. It is known that these materials serve the preparation of the porcelain dough, the extraction of the aluminium hydroxide and, from their enrichment, they create filling concentrates for the paper, rubber and leather industry. Clay sources Italian, Dalmatian and Slovakian companies have presented projects to enable the exploitation of the delta clay basin Bushat Zefjanë. Their factories will produce bricks, tiles, tubes but also the paste of porcelain plates and hydro-sanitary equipment. Fluoride sources As a mineral of a rare and scarce grouping in the world market, the exploitation of fluorides is based on criteria that differ from those of the minerals in general. Fluoride reserves reach the 50 000 tons. During 1990, in Brazhdë and Shosh of Dukagjin, 100 000 tons of fluorides were discovered, an amount which justifies investments in this area. A Japanese consortium has presented the request for the exclusive exploitation of fluorides in Dukagjin, and such an 63
