Wednesday 14 th August25 th ANNUAL NSA SOUTH WEST RAM SALE 2013RING 1 - Auctioneer: Mark Davis 07773 371774The South West NSA 25th Annual Ram sale saw a cracking trade for the Texel breed which saw particular strongdemand for the best from start to finish! Top of the day was 1100gns for Robert & Rebecca Jordan of Chagford who solda cracking Shearling “Moortown Toronto” sired by Midlock Rhino and out of a prize winning Ewe by Sportsman’s OnLine, he sold to James Eustice of Cornwall. Next in the high prices were Messrs FH Chave & Son of Wellington who solda tremendous run of quality Texel Shearlings and the ring set alight when “Peacehay” rams entered the ring. The best oftheir consignment presented by David & Sue sold to 940gns for the Overall Show Champion “Peacehay Target 2” siredby the 10,000gns Peacehay Razzle Dazzle and out of a dam by Claybury Mission, he sold to Mr Coad of Newquay. TheChave family sold a Douganhill Lonestar out of a Cennon Magnum Ewe at 820gns which sold to Sam Pedlar of Bodmin. At800gns from the same home was “Peacehay Tommy” by Scolton Panther. Only one Ram from the strong Peacehayconsignment of 15 failed to find a new home and they averaged a phenomenal £743! Two Shealings sold at 780gns andfirst to do it was “Foyle View Tequila” sired by Straidarran Ranger from Mrs CA Smale of South Molton. Next at 780gnswas “Challonsleigh Tarzan” sired by Peacehay Romeo from Robert Darke & Judith Lapthorne of Kingsbridge. Messrs EWQuick & Sons of Crediton sold a cracking consignment of Shearlings with the best of their run topping at 720gns twicefor “Loosebeare Tangent” sired by the 8,000gns Hull House Special Brew who has sired some tremendous rams for theQuick Family, he sold to Messrs Ginger of Cheddar in Somerset who also purchased “Loosbeare Team Player” byLoosebeare Rebel at the same money. Messrs Quick sold 8 out of their 10 rams over 600gns with the consignmentaveraging well at £645. At 700gns Alan & Barbara Draper of Crediton sold “Hollyford Tipster” sired by AlanfauldRockafella, he sold to Messrs WH Coles & Daughters of Dulverton who purchased several rams. Just a handful ofShearling Ewes forward which met a selective trade however the best sold well to 500gns for Messrs Clinton DevonFarms, this smart Shearling Ewe sired by Peacehay Razzle Dazzle was Champion Female and reserve Overall Champion,she sold to Messrs White of Watchet, Somerset. Messrs FH Chave & Son sold two quality Shearling Ewes and it wastheir 2nd prize Ewe by Cennon Magnum that sold at 420gns to Sam Pedlar and their 3rd prize Ewe by DouganhillLonestar sold at 350gns to Lance & Jill Wallis of Chard. Ewe Lambs sold to 220gns for Simon Rogers of St Neot,Cornwall.113 Texel Shearling Rams - £473RING 2 - Auctioneer: Simon Alford 07789 980203As usual Ring 2 saw the largest variety of breeds and the biggest variation in trade. Purchasers took a little while to warmup, but Dorsets met good demand selling to 400gns (£420) for WL French of Launceston who sold another two at £399.DW Rossiter of Kingsbridge reached £378 & £367.50 while JB Dufosee of Warminster sold four at £336. Poll Dorsetshearlings averaged £336.95.Berrichon rams met limited interest for a large number forward. Top of £420 came from J Yeo of Braunton who soldanother at £315.Border Leicesters reached £210 for a 6T and a shearling, both the property of Mrs SD Martyn of Launceston.A good entry of Lleyn rams met a level trade throughout with RHS Turner of Honiton selling three at £315 followed by atrio from JB Dufosee of Warminster at £273. Average was £273.The Suffolks were the largest number breed on offer andgenerated a big crowd of bidders & buyers, who soon set astrong trade for all Suffolk rams. Top of £1732.50 or 1650gnscame for a shearling from Robin Irwin of Umberleigh who soldanother at £756. RF Holmes of Exeter sold a good run ofshearlings at £1071, £1050, £714, £672, £651 (x2) & £609 (x2),closely followed by HC Derryman of Yarcombe at £966, £903,£892.50, £840, £651, £630 & £609. The best of DW Rossiter ofKingsbridge reached £672 & £630 and the best of ST Pierce ofAlmondsbury reached £630 & £609, M Smith of Cullompton andB Collings of Launceston also sold at £609. 66 Suffolk ramsaveraged £581.64.Hampshire Down rams reached £504, £378 & £315 (x2) for HCDerryman of Yarcombe, while RJ Cole of Tavistcok made £441and P Rea of Wadebridge saw £378 for his best Hampshiresaveraged £350.


RING 3 - Auctioneer: Russell Steer 07788 318701The Beltex were the first through ring three and soon got the sale off to a solid start with the second lot on offer beingthe Champion Ram, a shearling from Judith Lapthorne of Kingsbridge, realising £525 to Bulworthy Farm Partnership ofTiverton. Louise Moorhouse of Crockernwell was awarded Reserve Champion and topped at £577.50 & £525 with hershearlings and £367.50, £336 & £315 with her ram lambs. Richard Bond of Totnes reached £367.50 with his best twoshearling rams and the males averaged £363. A very tidy entry of Beltex females met with spirited bidding, selling to a topof £367.50 on behalf of Mrs L Gregory of Launceston who sold other shearling ewes at £294 (x2) and £262.50. Messrs J& G Howieson of Watchet sold two shearlings at £315 and ewe lambs at £294 & £178.50. Females averaged £290.A quality entry of Charollais sheep drew a strong crowd of buyers ready to spend on what they liked. Only one aged ramforward from J Osbourne of Bude, sold for £441. The first of the shearlings were from GF Burrough of Honiton, with arun of six awarded second prize in the pre-sale show selling to tops of £840 & £819 and averaging £721. First prizeshearling and overall Charollais Champion (as pictured) was awarded to C Hopper & Son of Tiverton and went on to sellfor £1050 to A & A Pedrick of Buckfastleigh. The run of best shearlings was awarded to EW Quick & Son and sold to£682.50 (x2) & £651 and averaged £621. More shearling rams to £609 for C Hawes of Bicester, £577.50 & £525 for DE& MJ Smith of Umberleigh, and £525 for the best from both AJ Dartof Cullompton and AJ & RA Wrayford of Newton Abbot. Shearlingrams averaged £516 (up £48 on 2012). Ram lambs were headed bythe best of the first prize run from GF Burrough that met fiercebidding to £1260, purchased by the pre-sale judge Brian Davies, onbehalf of L Organ of Carmarthenshire. GF Burrough’s seven lambsaveraged £628.50. More ram lambs to £525 & £420 from MJ & MJAlford of Cullompton, £483 from DE & MJ Smith, £472.50 from P &B Tully of Bridgwater, £462 from C Hawes and £441 twice from CIrwin of Umberleigh. Lambs averaged £394 (up £33 on 2012). A verylarge selection of Charollais females topped at £420 for the FemaleChampion from MJ & MJ Alford. EW Quick & Son reached £399 and£304.50.
