Call for Papers<br />

Abstracts may be submitted for:<br />

• Oral or poster presentation: All submissions<br />

<strong>in</strong> this category will be considered for ei<strong>the</strong>r a<br />

10 m<strong>in</strong>ute oral presentation with 5 m<strong>in</strong>utes for<br />

questions, or a 3 m<strong>in</strong>ute poster presentation<br />

followed by a group discussion. Abstracts should<br />

be maximum 200 words (exclud<strong>in</strong>g title, names<br />

<strong>and</strong> affi liations), structured as follows: Background;<br />

Summary <strong>of</strong> Work; Summary <strong>of</strong> Results;<br />

Conclusions; Take-home Messages.<br />

• Poster presentation: The submitter may check<br />

<strong>the</strong> ‘Poster only’ box, <strong>in</strong> which case <strong>the</strong> submission<br />

will be considered for poster presentation only<br />

(3 m<strong>in</strong>ute presentation followed by group<br />

discussion). Abstracts should be maximum 200<br />

words (exclud<strong>in</strong>g title, names <strong>and</strong> affi liations),<br />

structured as follows: Background; Summary <strong>of</strong><br />

Work; Summary <strong>of</strong> Results; Conclusions; Takehome<br />

Messages.<br />

• Conference workshop: Workshops are 90<br />

m<strong>in</strong>utes’ duration. Abstracts should be maximum<br />

200 words (exclud<strong>in</strong>g title, names <strong>and</strong> affi liations),<br />

structured as follows: Background; Intended<br />

Outcomes; Structure; Intended Audience; Level <strong>of</strong><br />

Workshop.<br />

Guidel<strong>in</strong>es for submission for IMU-RHIME Award:<br />

1. Submissions for <strong>the</strong> IMU-RHIME Award should be<br />

sent by email to Samb<strong>and</strong>am Elango (samb<strong>and</strong>am_<br />

elango@imu.edu.my) by 30 September 2011. They<br />

should not be submitted through <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> abstract<br />

submission site.<br />

2. Abstracts should relate to one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

assessment <strong>the</strong>mes listed on page 10.<br />

3. The title <strong>and</strong> abstract should not reveal <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> workplace, to ensure anonymity.<br />

4. The abstract should not exceed 250 words.<br />

5. In addition an extended abstract <strong>of</strong> not more<br />

than 500 words should be submitted for review<br />

purposes. The extended abstract must be structured<br />

conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g (a) Background <strong>of</strong> why this <strong>in</strong>novation<br />

is necessary; (b) Description <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>novation; (c)<br />

Results <strong>of</strong> evaluation; (d) Applicability <strong>and</strong> potential<br />

educational impact; (e) Adaptability <strong>in</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

sett<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />

6. While tested <strong>in</strong>novations will have an advantage,<br />

<strong>in</strong>novative ideas will also be weighed based on <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

merits.<br />

IMU-Ron Harden Innovation <strong>in</strong> Medical Education<br />

(IMU-RHIME AWARD)<br />

The IMU-Ron Harden Innovation <strong>in</strong> Medical Education<br />

Award was <strong>in</strong>troduced to fulfi ll two objectives:<br />

• To encourage <strong>in</strong>novations <strong>in</strong> Medical Education<br />

(Medical & Health pr<strong>of</strong>essions)<br />

• To recognize <strong>in</strong>novations by academics which<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rwise might go unnoticed<br />

The award honours Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Ronald Harden who<br />

played a crucial role <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ception <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> International<br />

Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Submissions<br />

are <strong>in</strong>vited for <strong>the</strong> 15th Ottawa Conference.<br />

RHIME Award.<br />

Eligibility:<br />

To be eligible for selection, at least ONE author should<br />

register for <strong>the</strong> Conference.<br />

Review process:<br />

1. All <strong>the</strong> submissions for <strong>the</strong> IMU-RHIME AWARD will<br />

be reviewed by an International panel based on <strong>the</strong><br />

orig<strong>in</strong>ality, <strong>in</strong>novation, potential educational impact,<br />

adaptability <strong>in</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r sett<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>and</strong> acceptability to<br />

teachers <strong>and</strong> students.<br />

2. Eight <strong>in</strong>novations will be short-listed. Authors <strong>of</strong><br />

shortlisted <strong>in</strong>novations will present <strong>the</strong>ir papers <strong>in</strong><br />

one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> two RHIME oral presentation sessions<br />

scheduled dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Conference.<br />

3. A panel <strong>of</strong> judges will decide on <strong>the</strong> w<strong>in</strong>ner. The<br />

award carries a roll<strong>in</strong>g trophy <strong>and</strong> a cash prize <strong>of</strong><br />

US$ 1000.<br />

4. Abstracts which are not shortlisted for presentation<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> RHIME sessions will be reviewed by <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong><br />

Ottawa Committee to be considered for oral or<br />

poster presentation.<br />
