To be eligible for a <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong>undergraduate degree, a student must presentat least 30 semester credits awarded by the<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong> campus from which heor she is seeking to graduate.2. Students must complete at least half <strong>of</strong> upperdivision course work on the campus from whichthey are seeking to graduate.3. At least 15 credits <strong>of</strong> the last 30 creditsearned prior to the awarding <strong>of</strong> a <strong>University</strong>degree must be awarded by the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Minnesota</strong> campus from which a student isseeking to graduate.4. For students who seek an academic minor,to be eligible for record <strong>of</strong> a minor on the<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong> transcript, studentsmust take at least three (3) upper divisioncredits in the minor field at the campus fromwhich they will receive their degree.To qualify for the associate in applied science or theassociate in science degree, the candidate mustcomplete a minimum <strong>of</strong> 64 credits with a GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.00(C). Your Graduation DayThe Assembly ProcessCommencement isscheduled for Saturday,May 7, 2011, at2 p.m., in LysakerGymnasium, SportsCenter. A receptionhonoring the graduateswill be held beforethe commencementceremony from11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in theNorthern Lights Loungein the Sargeant StudentCenter. All friends andfamily are invited to thereception and ceremony.Degree candidates should report to the Eagle’s Nestin the Sahlstrom Conference Center (in case <strong>of</strong> rain,report directly to the Sports Center) at 1 p.m. onSaturday, May 7, where you will receive an index cardfrom the student marshal.This index card will includeyour name (write phoneticspelling on card), along witha number in the lower righthand corner. The numberon the card represents yourplace in the procession. Donot lose this card. As youcross the stage during theceremony, you will hand your name card to the readerat the top <strong>of</strong> the stairs who will announce your name.Commencement is aceremonial event whichincludes the wearing <strong>of</strong>the traditional academiccap and gown bygraduates and faculty. The cap is to be worn withthe top parallel to the floor. The tassel is worn overthe right temple until the degrees are conferred. Nodecorations should appear on the cap or gown. Honormedals denoting graduation with Distinction andHigh Distinction are the only adornments allowed.All students who participate in commencement areexpected to dress in a manner that is in keeping withthe occasion (no tennis shoes, shorts, etc.). Anyoneunder the influence <strong>of</strong> alcohol or other drugs will beasked to leave and will not be allowed to participate inthe ceremonies.Candidates will march and standa good part <strong>of</strong> the time; thus,low-heeled, comfortable dressshoes are recommended. Sincethere are no secure areas toleave personal belongings, itis recommended that jackets,purses and other personal itemsbe left with family members.Degree candidates will line up in front <strong>of</strong> the Bookstorein the hallway toward the Eagle’s Nest. After you arelined up, please await the direction <strong>of</strong> the marshalsto join the procession. All graduatesare encouraged to have an optional posed photographtaken in Sahlstrom Conference Center prior to thecommencement ceremony in Lysaker Gymnasium. Thephotographer will also take a photo <strong>of</strong> each candidateas he or she receives the diploma folder from theChancellor at the ceremony. A few weeks after theceremony, a pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> these photos and an order formwill be mailed to each graduate. At that time, youmay order photos from the photographer.
