the awards may be further subdivided, or combined to afford<br />
full tuition, when the qualifications <strong>of</strong> the contestants make this<br />
advisable. They are awarded at the end <strong>of</strong> each year to students<br />
<strong>of</strong> the freshman and sophomore classes, on the basis <strong>of</strong> a competition<br />
<strong>of</strong> the character described below.<br />
JUNIOR TRAVEL PRIZES<br />
Two Travel Prizes, each carrying an award <strong>of</strong> $900, have<br />
been established through the liberality <strong>of</strong> anonymous donors, in<br />
order to emphasize the educational value <strong>of</strong> travel as a means<br />
<strong>of</strong> broadening the student's cultural and pr<strong>of</strong>essional view-points.<br />
These two travel prizes are awarded, at the end <strong>of</strong> the second<br />
term <strong>of</strong> each year, to the two most worthy students in<br />
the junior class upon the basis <strong>of</strong> a competition carried out<br />
as described below. They are to be used for a trip to Europe<br />
during the vacation between the junior and senior years. These<br />
tours are planned in consultation with representatives <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Faculty Committee on Honor Students, and include about ten<br />
days' sightseeing in the United States on the way to Europe and<br />
on the return. The winners <strong>of</strong> the prizes are expected to keep<br />
a diary <strong>of</strong> their experiences, and upon their return to file with<br />
the <strong>Institute</strong> a summarized report <strong>of</strong> their travels and expenses;<br />
and to present an interesting account <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> their experiences<br />
at an Assembly <strong>of</strong> the student body.<br />
CONDITIONS OF THE COMPETITION FOR THE PRIZE SCHOLARSHIPS<br />
AND TRAVEL PRIZES<br />
For the competition for the Sophomore and Junior Scholarships<br />
and for the Junior Travel Prizes the faculty have adopted<br />
the following regulations:<br />
(1) Award <strong>of</strong> the Blaclcer Prize Scholarship"s. These Scholarships<br />
will be awarded to those students who receive the largest<br />
nlllnrer <strong>of</strong> "points" computed as follows:
