FRESHMAN PRIZE SCHOLARSHIPS<br />
A number <strong>of</strong> freshmen scholarships are awarded by the <strong>Institute</strong>,<br />
and a further scholarship by its Alumni, upon the basis <strong>of</strong> a<br />
competition open to properly qualified male students in the senior<br />
classes <strong>of</strong> the high schools or college preparatory schools. The<br />
<strong>Institute</strong> Scholarships will carry a payment sufficient to cover<br />
either the whole or half <strong>of</strong> the year's tuition; and the Alumni<br />
Scholarship one <strong>of</strong> $300.<br />
To enter the competition the student must meet the following<br />
conditions: He must complete by the end <strong>of</strong> the current school<br />
year at least fifteen units <strong>of</strong> studies <strong>of</strong> such a character as will<br />
fulfill the requirements for admission to the <strong>Institute</strong>, as set<br />
forth on pages 65-68, and he must, if awarded a scholarship, expect<br />
to enter the <strong>Institute</strong> at the beginning <strong>of</strong> the next college<br />
year. The competitor for the Alumni Scholarship must be<br />
elected by vote <strong>of</strong> the male members <strong>of</strong> the senior class <strong>of</strong> his<br />
high school. Any competitor for the Alumni Scholarship is<br />
eligible for an <strong>Institute</strong> Scholarship (in case he should fail to<br />
receive the Alumni Scholarship).<br />
Each student nominated for the Alumni Scholarship must mail<br />
to the Registrar <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Institute</strong> not later than June lOth, on<br />
forms provided for the purpose, credentials giving the usual<br />
statistical information, and showing his high-school record, his<br />
participation in -student activities, and his outside activities and<br />
personal interests.<br />
All competitors for the scholarships must present themselves<br />
at the <strong>Institute</strong> for examination on June 30th and July 1st. The<br />
examinations will cover the branches <strong>of</strong> mathematics required<br />
for admission to the <strong>Institute</strong>, high-school physics and chemistry,<br />
English, American history, and general information. They will<br />
be <strong>of</strong> such a character as to determine the ability <strong>of</strong> the student<br />
to think and to express himself clearly, and to demonstrate his
