TUITION<br />
The tuition fee for undergraduate students who entered the<br />
<strong>Institute</strong> as freshmen prior to September, 1929, and have pursued<br />
their course continuously in the <strong>Institute</strong>, is two hundred<br />
and fifty dollars ($250) a year, payable $90 at the opening <strong>of</strong><br />
the first term and $80 at the opening <strong>of</strong> each <strong>of</strong> the other terms.<br />
The tuition fee for undergraduate students entering the <strong>Institute</strong><br />
as freshmen in September, 1929, and subsequently is two<br />
hundred and fifty dollars ($250) for the freshman year and three<br />
hundred dollars ($300) a year for each <strong>of</strong> the succeeding years.<br />
For graduate students, see pages 69 and 107.<br />
The Associated Student Body fee, payable by all undergraduate<br />
students, is $11.00 a year. This fee is used for the<br />
support <strong>of</strong> athletics and <strong>of</strong> other student activities. There is<br />
also a fee <strong>of</strong> 50c a term for locker rental. There are no other<br />
fees, but in the Division <strong>of</strong> Chemistry and Chemical Engineering<br />
an annual deposit <strong>of</strong> $10 is required the first year, and $15 the<br />
last three years, to cover breakage and loss <strong>of</strong> laboratory materials.<br />
There are also small deposits for locker keys and for<br />
padlocks issued in the drawing rooms. Deposits are also required<br />
to cover the expensc <strong>of</strong> inspection trips taken by students in<br />
various courses.<br />
The cost <strong>of</strong> supplies and <strong>of</strong> books ranges from $60 to $75 the<br />
first ycar, the larger part <strong>of</strong> which is required the first term, and<br />
from $20 to $30 a term thereafter.<br />
LOAN FUNDS<br />
The Cleveland Loan Fund was established by Miss Olive<br />
Cleveland for the purpose <strong>of</strong> aiding students to obtain an education.<br />
The income is lent without interest to worthy students who<br />
may need such assistance.<br />
In 1923, Mr. Howard R. Hughes, <strong>of</strong> Galveston, Texas, gave<br />
$5,000 to constitute an additional fund for loans to students.
