THROOP HALL<br />
Throop Hall, the central building on the campus, was erected<br />
in 1910, the gift <strong>of</strong> a large number <strong>of</strong> donors, and the first building<br />
<strong>of</strong> the present group. It now contains the <strong>of</strong>fices <strong>of</strong> administration,<br />
the class rooms and drafting rooms <strong>of</strong> the engineering<br />
departments, and some <strong>of</strong> thc engineering laboratories.<br />
NORMAN BRIDGE LABORATORY OF PHYSICS<br />
The Norman Bridge Laboratory <strong>of</strong> Physics, the gift <strong>of</strong> the<br />
late Dr. Norman Bridge <strong>of</strong> Chicago, consists <strong>of</strong> two units <strong>of</strong><br />
five floors each, connected at the north by a third unit <strong>of</strong> two<br />
floors, so as to form three sides <strong>of</strong> a hollow square. One <strong>of</strong> these<br />
units has in addition a special photographic laboratory on a<br />
partial sixth floor, and each has on its large flat ro<strong>of</strong> excellent<br />
facilities for outdoor experimentation.<br />
The first unit contains a lecture room seating 260 persons, two<br />
large undergraduate laboratories with adjoining dark rooms and<br />
apparatus rooms, three classrooms, three laboratories for advanced<br />
instruction, nine <strong>of</strong>fices, a stock and chemical room, the<br />
graduate library <strong>of</strong> physics, and twelve research rooms, besides<br />
shops, machinery, switchboard, and storage battery rooms.<br />
The second unit is used primarily for research. It contains<br />
forty-five research rooms as well as a seminar room, photographic<br />
dark rooms, a chemical room, fourteen <strong>of</strong>fices, and switchboard.<br />

second and third floors <strong>of</strong> this unit <strong>of</strong> the Norman Bridge Laboratory,<br />
is housed, temporarily, the Division <strong>of</strong> Geology and Paleontology.<br />
The third unit houses on one floor eight more research rooms.<br />
