The subjects in this group have the tw<strong>of</strong>old purpose <strong>of</strong> giving<br />

the student an insight into fundamental economic principles, and<br />

<strong>of</strong> acquainting him with some <strong>of</strong> the aspects <strong>of</strong> the practical<br />

operation <strong>of</strong> business enterprises. They furnish the important<br />

connecting link between the technical engineer and the man <strong>of</strong><br />

affairs.<br />

The principles <strong>of</strong> economics governing the production, distribution,<br />

and consumption <strong>of</strong> wealth, with particular reference to some <strong>of</strong> the<br />

important business and social problems <strong>of</strong> the day.<br />

The general purpose <strong>of</strong> the eourse is to show the dynamic nature <strong>of</strong><br />

economic society. The various stages in the development <strong>of</strong> economic<br />

life from primitive beginnings to the industrial revolution are dealt with.<br />

The problems <strong>of</strong> economic organizrrtion that hrrve arisen under a competitive<br />

and a quasi-competitive system are considered from the point <strong>of</strong><br />

view <strong>of</strong> the causative and developmental influences which have produced<br />

them.<br />
