The work in engineering and science is so largely mathematical<br />
in character that too much emphasis can hardly be placed<br />
upon the necessity <strong>of</strong> a good foundation in mathematics. Care<br />
is taken to present both underlying principles and a great variety<br />
<strong>of</strong> applications, thus connecting the mathematical work closely<br />
with the pr<strong>of</strong>essional studies.<br />
