DP/PA Linking deviceIn an attempt to overcome the PROFIBUS baud rate limitation induced by directTransparent Segment Couplers, the concept of DP/PA Link had been developed bySiemens. This combines 5 DP/PA modules with a PROFIBUS DP Interface Module.SiemensPhotoCommercialDesignationMax Nbof PAcouplersMax Nb ofdevicesby DP InterfaceMax Numberof devices perPA SegmentPROFIBUSDPTransfer RateSimatic DP, IM157 5 64 31 up to 12 MbpsAlthough capable of communicating on the DP side at up to 12 Mbps, this solution islimited. The Link is handled by a PROFIBUS DP Master as one particular slave. Alldata related to the PROFIBUS PA stations handled by this Link are gathered on anintermediate table. As a PROFIBUS slave, this data table cannot exceed 244 bytes Inand 244 bytes Out, regardless of the number of PROFIBUS PA slaves. In addition theLink requires a specific configuration operation, describing the different PROFIBUSPA Slaves, along with their individual data exchanges. A specific GSD is thenproduced and provided to the PROFIBUS Configurator Tool.Junction BoxA junction box is the most common PROFIBUS PA cabling element. It acts as adistributor designed to feed several PROFIBUS PA devices resulting in a "Line andTree" or “chicken-leg” topology.Junction boxes exist in various designs, differing by :• number of channels (4, 6, 8, 12, etc.)• housing style ( aluminium, stainless steel, etc.), connection type• protection degree (IP20, IP67, etc.), temperature range• FISCO/FNICO/Entity compliance28
