REEDONIANNewsletterSUMMER EDITION 34, 2013THE SCHOOL CAPTAINS SHARE THEIR THOUGHTS AS THEY PREPARE TO LEAVEIt is the feeling of unity that I think is integral to life at Reed’s School; it’s impossible to feel isolated in an atmosphere whereeveryone is more than willing to go out of their way to help their friends. Humility is something I have learnt in abundancefrom my seven years here and it is paramount in leading any group of people. Central to the school is the charitable Foundation,as it opens up a world otherwise unavailable to children throughout the school.Peter Chicken, School Captainhave loved my time at Reed’s School. It has really opened my eyes, not only to an extremely privileged environment whereI we are gifted with an education only others can dream of, but also to the reality of life, where others are not so fortunate. Ibelieve the Foundation aspect of Reed’s is critical. Not only does it provide inconceivable opportunities to many children but itreminds the entire school to be grateful for how much they have been given and to grasp every opportunity with open arms.I thank Reed’s for all it has taught me. Through the support and teaching both academically and outside the classroom I amready and excited to move onwards to university.Jessica Chandler, School Captain• FutureTech - Green Power Car races atGoodwood• Music - Consort Choir sings at St Paul’s Cathedral;praise for the Gala Concert at Dorking Halls• Drama - Peter Chicken chosen by acclaimeddirector Michael Grandage for West Endtheatre group• Hockey - U16s through to South of England finalsafter winning Surrey Cup for 2nd year in a row;U13s & U12s Runners Up in Surrey Cup• Golf - teams through to IGSA Matchplay NationalFinals & HMC Foursomes Regional Finals• Rugby - Sevens reach National Quarter Finals• Swimming - U18 Bath Cup boys medley team 6thplace overall; Surrey Individuals 2 Gold, 2 Silverand 3 Bronze medals• Skiing - teams win a host of medals at British SkiRacing Championships• Cricket - Sonny Cott, Oskar Kolk & Nathan Tilleyselected for Surrey Elite Player Prog; Nathan Tilleyranked top of ECB batting profiles in age group• Sailing - 2nd place in the Surrey Schools’ Regatta• Gymnastics - Harry Kilby wins Gold in Internationalcompetition & a place in the GB 13-14 squadphoto: Thomas Atkins as ‘The Caterpillar’ in the Junior Productionwww.reeds.surrey.sch.uk
