PROPOSAL

To approve Out-of-State Travel for Geoff Hagopian to attend Mathfest 1996, scheduled for August 10-12,
1996 in Seattle, Washington.
BACKGROUND
The Mathematical Association of America is the most prominent of professional organizations supporting
freshman and sophomore level mathematics instruction. Among Mr. Hagopian's goals is the promotion of
math across the curriculum and towards that end he will study applications in the social sciences and in
physics. Also important is the use of technology, which will be a central focus of his attention. By flirther
developing his understanding of curriculum trends and hardwarelsoftware products, Mr. Hagopian will be able
' to create a better learning environment for Math at College of the Desert.
BUDGET IMPLICATIONS
Staff Development hnds will be used to cover the total cost of $402.00.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board of Tnistees approve Out-of-State Travel for Geoff Hagopian to attend the
Mathfest 1996, scheduled from August 10-12, 1996, in Seattle, Washington.
