OUTGOING SDPS PRESIDENT RECEPTIONHONORING DR. AZAD M. MADNITuesday, June 3, 2008 7: 00 pm - 9:00 pm Room: Splendor II, 13F, Splendor HotelSDPS Board Honors Outgoing President, Welcomes New OneINTRODUCING INCOMING PRESIDENTDr. Azad M. MadniPresidentSociety for Design and Process ScienceWe are greatful to Dr. Azad for his guidance andleadership that have helped transform the Society intoa more forward-looking community that it is today.Thank you for your long-time dedication andunconditional service to SDPS, and especially foryour involvement with the implementation oftransdisciplinary vision.MESSAGE FROM SDPS PRESIDENTDear Fellow Transdisciplinarians:Welcome to the Eleventh World Congress of Integrated Designand Process Technology (IDPT-08). Out host this year is AsiaUniversity, a young and vibrant institute of learning in “CentralTaiwan” or Taichung. Our conference theme this year, “GlobalNetwork for Transdisciplinary Collaboration” is apt for our society. Our society continues to increase its outreach to ourtransdisciplinary brethren through our conferences and our Journal.Of note are a few exciting changes. You will notice that we haveslightly modified the name of both our society and the conference. The two terms that are conspicuous by their presence are“transdisciplinary” and “systems.” By using the termtransdisciplinary explicitly we clearly convey that transdisciplinarythinking is what unites us as a society. By including “systems” weconvey our interest and commitment to introducing transdisciplinarythinking into the way we approach systems. We have also begunactivities with other international societies in terms of technicalcosponsorship of conferences. We will continue to make advancesin technical co-sponsorship to increase visibility of our society. Inkeeping with our vision to increase the frequency of interactionamong the society members, I urge you all to be proactive byproposing new transdisciplinary themes for workshops andsymposia. Colleagues, you have an unprecedented opportunity tobe pioneers in transdisciplinary science, research, and educationas transdisciplinary thinking continues to gain greater momentumin academe, government and industry. While acutely aware thattransdisciplinary problems, by their very nature, are difficult, I takeheart from the words of Winston Churchill who famously said,“Difficulties mastered are opportunities won.” Let us follow thesesage words. Please join me in welcoming President-electProfessor Sumit Ghosh as I pass the baton for the stewardship ofthe society to him. Professor Ghosh and I will continue to work onbehalf of our society in promoting our exciting vision, and incommunity outreach activities. And last but not the least, I wish youall a most rewarding experience at IDPT 2008 and hope that youcome away from this conference with new ideas and renewedenthusiasm to shape the future direction and growth of our society, and to rededicate our commitment to the betterment of mankindthrough transdisciplinary solutions.Dr. Sumit GhoshChairmanComputer Science DepartmentThe University of Texas at TylerReplacing Dr. Azad M.
