For the sake of world peace, he undertook an over six hundredmile pilgrimage from South Pasadena to Ukiah, repeatedlytaking three steps and one bow to cover the entire journey. In theentire two years taken to make the pilgrimage, he observed a practiceof total silence. Rev. Heng Sure has an M.A. in Oriental Languagesfrom UC Berkeley, and a Ph.D. from the Graduate TheologicalUnion in Berkeley. He serves as the Managing Director ofthe Berkeley Buddhist Monastery and teaches on the staff at theInstitute for World Religions. He lectures on the Avamtasak Sutra atthe Berkeley Monastery every Saturday evening. YehNew Path foundationDr. Yeh joined AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1978. During his career,Dr. Yeh directed various software system design and developmentfor the telecom industry including very large projects in the 5ESSswitching system where more than 20 departments and over 1000technical software and hardware developers are involved. The telephoneswitching systems were deployed throughout the UnitedStates and then globally in the 80’s and 90’s.Dr. Yeh was appointed business development vice president in1990 to help accelerate the acceptance and deployment of operationalsystems in <strong>Asia</strong>. In 1992, he took over AT&T Taiwan Telecommunicationsas CEO and turned around the company into a profitableand diversified business. AT&T-TT won the highest qualityaward in Taiwan and also recognized as the Best Foreign Businessin 1994. Dr. Yeh was appointed vice president of LucentTechnologies as well as the chairman and CEO of Lucent China in1996 where under his leadership, Lucent China also turned aroundfrom loss to profitability.
