Beautiful Mt. McKinley. We all finally got onboard the ColumbiaFerry—the largest Alaska ferry. All the bikershad to tie down their bikes, but I didn’t haveto worry about that because of our threewheels. I spent more time on the bridge thanmy wife did because I was looking for whales, and I did see a few of them and got some pictures. And we saw a lot of pretty areas going941-723-9817south and stopped at a lot of different ports atnight. Plus, we had a seven-hour layover inKetchikan, where we got off the ferry andtook a tour ride and stopped at two totempole parks. Then we were back on the ferry again, headed south and, at 7 a.m. on August 10, wedeparted the ferry in Bellingham and wentDisabled Motorcycle Riders,Inc.Kliktronic USA518 36th St. West • Palmetto, FL 34221www.disabledmotorcyclerider.comsouth to visit out daughter. The next day, westopped at our son’s place. And, on August 12,we were on our way to the Walla Walla areaand home. We live in nearby College Place,Washington, and we were very happy to makeit home safely, especially after such a long trip. And a quick note here to anyone who hasnot yet traveled to Alaska by bike: Keep inmind that, in Canada, when you use a creditcard you will be charged an extra foreigntransaction fee for using your credit card. It’snot much, but it adds up in the end. Also, youshould have some foreign money on youbecause not everybody will take a credit card(I know it happened to me).All in all, though, I’ll tell you one thing:Thisis one adventure I will remember forever, andI would do it again on our trike. My wife, however, won’t ever be able to do it again; it wastoo hard a trip for her. (She is 71, and I am75.)But the reason we took this trip to Alaskawas because it made that state our 49th stateto visit—and it was also the year of our 49thwedding anniversary. We figured we couldcelebrity both of those “firsts” at the sametime, plus, we also got to celebrate my 75thbirthday on August 5. So what a trip it was!And we’re both so glad we did it. ●72 Wing World
