Hello FCA Southwest Region Members,There is big news from FCA National in the name of “Bucks Back,” a new program withmoney saving benefits on discounts from any authorized Ferrari dealer in the US andCanada, driving schools, vehicle lease and transportation companies. Plus you can obtaina Visa credit card with your personalized photo. The discount from just one service couldpay for your year’s membership, so there’s never been a better reason to be a FCA member. Our own Marv Landon is FCA National Membership Chairperson, and our thanks to himand others for putting together this nationwide program.Take a look at our events calendar! Two full pages of events are scheduled with others inthe planning stages. The diversity of our events reflects the different interests of our eventchairpersons who volunteer their time to organize activities for the rest of us to enjoy. Weencourage your participation.By having an enthusiastic group of event chairpersons doing events they enjoy, leads us tothe ever present challenge to keep developing new interesting events to mix in with ourtraditionally popular events so that our group’s activities remains fresh and relevant.March-April 2010President’sMessageCome to your favoriteFCA Southwest Regionevents and give somethingnew a try.One idea that I’ve had for an event but haven’t been able to make the right connectionswould be to have an event on a studio back lot with our cars. After all, we live in Hollywoodand it would seem possible to have a party/barbecue/film screening among a city facade.Perhaps it could have a charity component to allow for broader impact and allow our clubto give back or bring recognition to a deserving organization. So please contact me if youhave any ideas on how something like this could be done or other fun events that youwould like to see our club offer, as we want to offer events all of you will want to come to.There are several changes to our informal In Your Area events with new venues and newdays when they meet for three of the groups. Mark’s Valley location where EuroSundaymeets has moved to the Westfield Promenade and is supported by the Auto Gallery. Guy’sVentura group now gathers at the Santa Paula Airport during their open hanger Sunday, and the West LA first Saturday drive is back on, lead by Kenny with a new start location atThe Glen Center with a longer drive. Our club is about having events for our members, but the events are held by some verygenerous hard working people who volunteer their time and energy for us to have some funwith our Ferraris. You can further enjoy your membership in the Ferrari Club of America byparticipating in some events that you might not normally go to. If you’re a concours person, sign up for a driving event to feel and hear your Ferrari through the open roads or bringsome friends to a social event such as our Kentucky Derby Party or our polo matches toexperience cavallino of a different variety.I look forward to seeing you at several of our events in the months to come.Tex K. The FCA Hearst Castle WeekendOur weekend startedArticle and Photos ByCarlos Amatoearly Friday morning in Calabasas, where after our drivers briefing and a light breakfast wegroup departed towards Ojai. The drive took us through some of the most amazing roads inSouthern California, including Highway 166 and side roads around Santa Maria, San LuisObispo and Cambria. Our trip had plenty of long stretches where we really got to enjoy our cars. Our traditionallunch stop once again was at the famous Jockos Steakhouse in Nipomo. The real treat wasthat on a drive like this, you really get to connect with your car, which is not the case whendriving in the city.We arrived at Morro Bay early afternoon and checked in our hotel, The Inn at Morro Bay.After resting for a while we took a private trolley to the Morro Bay port and boarded theluxury yacht Papagallo for a lovely dinner at sea (OK, just around the bay). Dinner consistedof exquisite appetizers and several main courses, drinks and coffee. The tour lasted acouple of hours, after which we returned to the hotel. The next morning after having breakfast at the hotel overlooking the bay, we drove toHearst Castle. The drive from Morro Bay to San Simeon is one of the best in California. There is no traffic, you drive by ocean and the views inland are breathtaking. Before thetour, we had a chance to see the new documentary film on the history of the castle and theSan Simeon area. The Castle now has a real nice gift shop, café and old artifacts display, including one of the original fire trucks.10

On our way back we stopped in Cambria for lunch. Cambria is a small town onthe coast, next to the San Simeon hotel. It has a short main street with lots ofcute little shops that sell crafts and local goods. In the afternoon, we returnedto downtown Morro Bay to see the Annual Festival and Farmers Market.I want to thank Tony Cole for organizing the event and making all this happen.See you next year?SFPhoto captions opposite page:Hearst Castle’s luxurious Neptune Pool. at the Walt Disney Concert HallNear monsoonArticle ByPeter G. KudraveEvent Photos ByMarv Landonrain failed to deter eighty members and guests from attending our annual ChristmasLuncheon at the world-renowned Walt Disney Concert Hall last mid-December. Only fourslightly misguided members drove their Ferraris (I being one) for display under suchadverse conditions. For me, it was a great opportunity to appreciate the car’sexcellent traction control. Most attendees took the private group tour of Frank Gehry’s design signature concert halland, reportedly had a great experience just prior to our own program.Following very social wine reception in our private dining room at Patina Restaurant, weenjoyed a three course meal consisting of Butternut Squash Soup, Roasted Jidori Chickenand specially designed cheesecake infused with Ferrari red Raspberry compote. Serviceand lunch was excellent since we had the entire staff including Master Chef Tony Esnaultas well as General Manager Christian Philippo attending to everyone’s desires.During our meal, Ms. Leanna Brand and seven of her Master Chorale associates sang acapella, a dozen outstanding pieces such as Adeste Fidelis, Coventry Carol, Tu Scendi DalleStelle as well as the beautiful old Russian Orthodox – Bless Thou the Lord, Oh My Soul. With professional voices of clarity and power, even singing Ding Dong Merrily on High madefor great music. It was indeed very special to have taken place in a great restaurant withfine friends. Some are asking; where do we go from here for our next year’s performance? Perhaps aprivate tour at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles with the Master Chorale’s 16-voicechoir? - Stay tuned.SF12

F A C T O R Y A N N O U N C E M E N T355FerrariRecallINFORMATION COURTESYF E R R A R I & M A S E R AT Io f O R A N G E C O U N T YFerrari SpA, the manufacturer of Ferrari automobiles, has determined that a defect relating to motor vehiclesafety exists in certain Model Year 1995-1999 Ferrari355 Vehicles. The defect involves the fuel line divider block locatedinside of the engine compartment. It has been determinedthat it is possible that independent automobilerepair facilities may improperly install certain screwclamps that are located in close proximity to the fuellines that fasten the water sleeve to the thermostatconnection. The improper installation of these screwclamps may damage the fuel supply pipes, which in turncould leak fluid into the engine compartment, causingsmoke and, in some circumstances, a fire, rendering the vehicle inoperable and possibly resultingin a crash. For these reasons Ferrari has decided tolaunch a Recall Campaign to install a new fuel dividerblock which will serve to provide a greater distancebetween these screw clamps and the fuel lines. The vehicles affected are as follows:Model Year 1995 – 1999 Ferrari 355 and 355 F1vehicles in the VIN range:ZFFPR42A9S0101818 to ZFFXR48A1X0117039.If your vehicle is in the VIN range, you should contactan Authorized Ferrari Dealer immediately in order toarrange for an inspection of your automobile and tohave the corrective action performed.Toll Free 866) 297-2826, Tel: 714) 662-760024
