MTB Direct probe, and nocardia

Send CSF for 14-3-3 Protein; If
concern for prion disease, notify
epidemiology as special
precautions need to be taken.
SBP Send ascitic fluid for: albumin, total
protein, gram stain and culture
(bedside inoculation of culture
bottles increases Se), cell count
with diff; can also send amylase,
triglycerides, AFB stain/culture,
adenosine deaminase (if TB
suspected), or cytology
Tuberculosis AFB sputum stain and culture x3
(order induced sputum if needed);
PPD or Quantiferon Gold
