The new reading room is situated in thehighest floor of the library, in the area that has not beenused for a long time and is highly interesting from anarchitectural point of view.The refurbished area – reconstructed according tothe project of the architect Gintaras Pamerneckis – implementsthe concept of a reading room devoted tothe studies of Oriental languages, history, and culture.Therefore, this reading room is filled with mystery,it emanates tranquility. Up-to-date, functional interioris in line with the cosy atmosphere of a private library,certain details help to accentuate spectacular views ofthe old town seen through the windows of the readingroom.Newly opened Oriental Studies Reading Room shelvesin the open stacks the collection of Vilnius UniversityCentre of Oriental Studies. The reading room is thelargest research library in Lithuania and Baltic countriesdevoted to the Oriental studies.The Oriental Studies Reading Room is the third subdivisionlibrary which was integrated to the main libraryof Vilnius University. The main library has already integratedthe Philosophy and Philology Reading Rooms.The new reading room gave one more opportunity toimplement ideas of interdisciplinary studies. It becameone more place for research, discovery and creation.The reading room consists of five areas of varioussize, it has 17 work places, six of which are equippedwith computers. The reading room also has severalareas with settees and tea tables specifically designedfor recreation and informal communication.
