06.00AUGUST 201129 mondayhttp://www.mb.vu.lt07.0008.0009.0010.0011.0012.0013.0014.0015.0016.0017.0018.0019.0020.0021.00Personnel management at VU Library fights against stereotypesThe context of the development of electronic library, refurbishment of the old historical library andconstruction of the new one – Scholarly Communication and Information Centre – gives an opportunityto re-evaluate the role of employees in organization, therefore activities of the library were focusedon professional development of the personnel.In 2011 the library consulted with several organizational psychologists, organized two trainings attendedby 75 members of the library staff. The first training was intended for the members of uppermanagement as they play a particularly important role in times of change. Managers of the librarywere also given an opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills in the field of effective communicationin organization. At the end of the year, employees of Customer Service Department attendedtraining in order to improve effective customer service, conflict prevention and management skills.In the year 2011 processes of personnel management were formalized. The main activities of thelibrary in the field of personnel development were focused on the SCIC personnel, attempts weremade to define their functions, qualifications and competences. The results of the library personnelmanagement were presented to the public in various presentations and publications.In order to maintain organizational culture, the library strives to articulate its values, cherish longestablishedtraditions and initiate new ones as this may considerably contribute to the creation ofcommunity and loyalty.At the end of summer, according to the tradition, members of the library staff look for inspirationfor the coming academic year by celebrating “Festum nostrum”. This event aims to encourage cooperation,communication (within a department and between them) and a sense of belonging amongemployees by performing simple and amusing team tasks in neutral environment. Celebration ofChristmas is the other occasion to foster traditions and organizational values. In 2011 employees wereinvited to see the play “Sparnuotasis Matas” (“Winged Matas”) performed by the theatre laboratory“Atviras ratas” (“Open Circle”). During the event, 33 members of the staff received long service awards.On October 15 2010, an alley in VU Botanic Garden was named after Vilnius University Library. Startingfrom that day, the staff of the library has an obligation to tidy up the alley at least once per year.Needles to say – valuable advices offered by the specialists of Botanic Garden help a lot.22.0023.0024.0001.0002.0003.0004.0005.00http://www.mb.vu.lt13
