OnOctober 7, Vilnius University as the administrative institution of the Consortium of the Lithuanian Academic Librariesfor the Maintenance and Development of an Information Infrastructure for Science and Studies (further referred to asthe Consortium) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science drafted a project of new regulations for theLithuanian Academic Electronic Library which under the legislative procedures was submitted to Information SocietyDevelopment Committee, Ministry of the Interior and State Data Protection Inspectorate. The project of regulations forthe Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library information system aims to tackle these issues:• to interlink various unrelated outcomes of LALN target under one information system – the Lithuanian AcademicElectronic Library;• to establish well-defined organizational structure of the Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library providing thatthe administrator of the Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library is the Ministry of Education and Science and the mainmanager of the Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library is Vilnius University as the administrative institution of the Consortium;• to identify clearly objectives and goals of the Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library and to articulate its informationaland functional structure.Much attention was given to the testing of software “Primo” supplied by Ex Libris and to complete installation of“Primo” in the integrated information retrieval system of libraries resources, for the meantime referred to as the LithuanianVirtual Library (www.lvb.lt). Since October information resources from all libraries of Lithuanian science and studyinstitutions can be accessed through the information retrieval portal of new generation, where through one search boxa user can access all information resources of libraries, as well as subscribed or open access databases and archives.In 2011 the Consortium reached its key objective and that is an agreement with the Ministry of Education and Sciencegranting the Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library information system the status of national importance and statingthat the administrator of the Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library is the Ministry of Education and Science and themain manager of the Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library is Vilnius University as the administrative institution of theConsortium.In November 2011, Vilnius University was re-elected to be an administrative institution of the Consortium for thesecond term (2012-2013). Director general of Vilnius University Library Irena Krivienė was elected to the Board of theConsortium and in December she was re-elected as the Chair of the Board. Ten institutions became members of theConsortium (at present the Consortium unites 40 institutions):• University of Management and Economics;• Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences;• Kolping University of Applied Sciences;• University of Applied Social Sciences;• International School of Law and Business;• V. A. Graiciunas School of Management;• West Lithuanian Business College;• Vilnius College of Design;• Vilnius Cooperative College;• International Business School at Vilnius University.The Consortium has adopted the strategic plan for 2011-2013.http://www.mb.vu.lt21
