06.00december 201114 wednesdayhttp://www.mb.vu.lt07.0008.00From the reports of departments09.0010.0011.0012.0013.0014.0015.0016.0017.0018.00The Manuscript Department set up four new archival units from the documents received from the followingresearchers: geologist, researcher of Lithuanian Quaternary, professor Algirdas Juozapas Gaigalas (1933–2009),philologist, educator, professor Henrikas Zabulis (1927–2010), historian, dr. Algirdas Vaitekūnas (born 1927), professors, members of the Biržiška family Mykolas (1880–1962), Vaclovas (1882–1956) and Viktoras (1884–1964).The Manuscript Department took over the archive of the library from Vilnius University Archives. Archives ofthe Library historically were safeguarded in two archival units: F46 – The Vilnius Public Library and Museum of Antiquitiesand F47 – The Vilnius Public Library. In 1980 the University archive was included into the structure of thelibrary and named the Documentation Department. In accordance with the regulations of acquisitions adopted bythe Documentation Department, the main objective of the department was to store and preserve the archive ofthe library. In 1985 when the new book storage was build and the Documentation Department received a new storagearea, the archive of the library of the soviet period (1940-1985) was given to the Documentation Department. After some structural changes of the University in 1991, the Documentation Department became an integral partof the University Administration. Since 1991, the library began sporadically collecting documents. In those recentyears of refurbishment and relocation, archives of the departments of the library were handed over to the ManuscriptDepartment. At the same time in 2011, the library archive was transferred from Vilnius University Archives tothe Manuscript Department. The fact that the archive is stored in one place ensures the integrity of this archivalunit, establishes favourable conditions for research, selection, arrangement, description and use of documents.Professor Henrikas Zabulis’ widow donated to the Rare Book Department several valuable books of the 16th-18th c. Philosophical work by Marcus Tullius Cicero is an especially valuable book printed in Venice in 1528. It willadd to the Post-incunabula collection. The rare book collection was supplemented by the 17th century edition ofHomer’s Odyssey. The collection of the early Lithuanian books was enlarged by the 1713 edition of the dictionarycompiled by Konstantinas Sirvydas.19.0020.0021.0022.0023.0024.0001.0002.0003.0004.0005.00http://www.mb.vu.lt27
