This study has shown that a modification to HAZUS, using Monte Carlo simulations,redresses this deficiency in HAZUS in a way which (initially at least) appearsplausible by reference to observed data from Kocaeli. RELIABILITY OF MULTISTORY BRICK BUILDINGS AT DIFFERENTPERFORMANCE LEVELSLingxin ZHANG 1 , Jinren JIANG and Jieping LIUABSTRACTThis paper analyzes the seismic reliability of multistory brick buildings at differentperformance levels by the Latin Hypercube Sampling technique and nonlinear seismic timehistory response analysis. In this analysis, a set of representative multistory dwelling brickbuildings needs to be established. The uncertainties of structural parameters and earthquakeload are considered. INTRODUCTIONIn this paper, the seismic reliability of multistory brick buildings designed accordingto the current PRC code is analyzed in detail at different performance levels. Theanalytical results may lay the foundation of a performance-based seismic designmethod based on reliability of multistory brick buildings. The seismic reliability isanalyzed by the Latin Hypercube Sampling technique and nonlinear seismic timehistory response analysis. In the analysis, the uncertainties of earthquake load andstructural parameters are considered.2. REPRESENTATIVE MULTISTORY DWELLING BRICK BUILDINGSIn order to evaluate the seismic reliability of multistory brick buildings at differentperformance levels, a set of representative structures needs to be establishedaccording to the Latin Hypercube Sampling technique. Here, we regard multistorydwelling brick buildings as examples. Using typical design parametric values, whichare chosen according to the scope of common design parametric values of multistorydwelling brick buildings, four representative multistory dwelling brick buildings, asshown in Table 1, are established by the Latin Hypercube Sampling technique.
