8. CONCLUSIONSBased on the test and analytical results, summary and conclusions are made asfollows:• Test results confirm that the earthquake responses of the 3-story 3-bay CFT-BRB frame and members can be satisfactorily predicted using both PISA3Dand OpenSees.• The peak story drift reached 0.025 radian in Phase 1 tests after applying the2/50 design earthquake on the specimen. It appears that the DSD procedureadopted in the design of the specimen is effective in limiting the ultimatestory drift under the effects of the design earthquake.• CFT/BRBF performed extremely well after the application of six earthquakeload effects. In addition, according to the free vibration tests conducted aftereach earthquake pseudo dynamic test, the stiffness and damping of thespecimen only changed slightly.• Stiffeners added along the free edges of the gusset plate are effective inpreventing out-of-plane instability of the brace-to-column connections. However, it also introduces flexural demands on the BRBs. Furtherresearches are required to study the BRB end connections.• All the moment connections survived all the Phase-1 and Phase-2 testswithout failure. The BRBs effectively control the story drift and reduce thenonlinear demand imposed on these moment connections.• Tests confirmed that the networked testing architecture implemented for theISEE is very effective in disseminating real time test results through theinternet.REFERENCESTsai, K.
