Champions of the Future programme<br />
Champions of the Future is our new athlete<br />
support programme, developed <strong>and</strong> delivered<br />
by the council <strong>in</strong> partnership with Sports Aid,<br />
West London Sports Trust <strong>and</strong> Nuffield Health.<br />
The programme is open <strong>to</strong> all Westm<strong>in</strong>ster<br />
residents at regional <strong>and</strong> national level.<br />
The aims of the programme are <strong>to</strong>:<br />
• identify, support <strong>and</strong> develop gifted<br />
young people<br />
• engage <strong>and</strong> support clubs & coaches<br />
• <strong>in</strong>crease access <strong>to</strong> sport & <strong>leisure</strong> facilities.<br />
Champions of the Future athletes will<br />
benefit from a comprehensive offer <strong>and</strong> free<br />
resources <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
• free access <strong>to</strong> all Westm<strong>in</strong>ster facilities<br />
• men<strong>to</strong>r<strong>in</strong>g support <strong>and</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />
progress reports, performance profiles, <strong>and</strong><br />
athlete <strong>and</strong> performance workshops<br />
• up <strong>to</strong> £1,000 fund<strong>in</strong>g support for travel,<br />
equipment <strong>and</strong> accommodation expenses.<br />
There are over 60 Sports<br />
Clubs <strong>in</strong> Westm<strong>in</strong>ster<br />
offer<strong>in</strong>g active opportunities<br />
from archery <strong>to</strong> sail<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Gifted <strong>and</strong> Talented programme<br />
The programme seeks <strong>to</strong> improve the<br />
education of gifted <strong>and</strong> talented children<br />
<strong>and</strong> young people aged 5-19 through sport.<br />
