Smothered VerbsIntroduction Another way to eliminate unnecessary words is to avoid using smothered verbs.Definition:action verbDefinition:smotheredverbAn action verb is one that expresses meaning without helping verbs or othermodifiers. Example: We agree with the decision.A smothered verb is a verb converted to a noun, so it needs a helping verb andprepositions or articles to express action.
