In this process, a conductive ink is pressed through anozzle by means of an integrated pump, thus generating an ink jet. Apiezo element develops ultrasound vibrations which divide the ink flowinto small droplets.A defined charge is then applied to the droplets at the point of rupture.The droplets then pass through a highvoltage field which diverts thecharged droplets accordingly. This diversion determines where thedroplets are placed on the substrate. Non-charged droplets are notdiverted and go into a gutter, from where they are pumped back intothe ink system.The whole ink system has a simple but robust design and is thereforeextremely reliable. Ink bottles can also be refilled at any time duringprint operation so production downtimes are minimized.The continuous inkJETprocess – droplet rupturecan be monitored duringoperation by meansof the sight glass andstroboscope built into theprint head.
