WORK STUDY LEADERSHIP PROGRAMHigh School students are invited to apply for the Work Study Leadership program. Selected studentswill have the opportunity to develop skills as a classroom or <strong>of</strong>fice assistant in exchange for full-tuitioncost coverage for ONE three-house class for the duration <strong>of</strong> the semester. The program is competitivewith a limited number <strong>of</strong> positions.SUMMER ART & DESIGN INSTITUTEThe Summer <strong>Art</strong> & <strong>Design</strong> Institute is a residential four-week summer pre-college program open toyoung women who have just completed their sophomore, junior or senior year <strong>of</strong> high school. Young <strong>Art</strong>ists Workshop Program forStudents in Grades 1 – 8Studio classes specifically designed for students in grades 1 – 8 thatare interested or curious about art <strong>and</strong> design. Sessions are taughtby <strong>Moore</strong> BFA faculty, certified art educators <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionalartists <strong>and</strong> designers, who provide personal attention to eachstudent. Classes embrace multiple student skill levels within astructured environment allowing students to pursue their creativepassion. Projects vary each semester using unique art materials.<strong>Moore</strong>’s vibrant Philadelphia campus is located on Benjamin FranklinParkway <strong>and</strong> our youth classes take advantage <strong>of</strong> <strong>Moore</strong>’s locationby including <strong>of</strong>f-site trips to artistic <strong>and</strong> cultural attractions at noadditional cost. Additionally, when weather permits youth classes areheld “plein air” in outdoor space in Aviator Park <strong>and</strong> Logan Square,both located across the street from <strong>Moore</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<strong>Art</strong> supplies are provided for all students in grades 1 – 8. She was also a Peace Corps volunteer in St. Kitts &Nevis, West Indies.Jackie Cervino is a high school art teacher at NazarethAcademy <strong>and</strong> also coordinates <strong>and</strong> teaches art workshopsin mixed media, mosaics <strong>and</strong> painting at Perkins Center forthe <strong>Art</strong>s. Jackie received her BFA in illustration <strong>and</strong> her arteducation certificate from <strong>Moore</strong>. A mosaic artist,she has displays in several Philadelphia locations includingReynolds Elementary School, Robert Vaux Middle School <strong>and</strong>the Philadelphia Hair Company.Peggy Davis holds a bachelor <strong>of</strong> fine arts in painting<strong>and</strong> certification in art education from <strong>Moore</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Art</strong> & <strong>Design</strong>. She is a painter who works in both oils <strong>and</strong>pastels, her l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> still life paintings are in public <strong>and</strong>private collections in Gloucester, Delaware <strong>and</strong> Chestercounty. She continues to exhibit in the Delaware Valleyarea. She is actively involved in the painting program at theStudio Incamminati. In addition to teaching in <strong>Moore</strong>’s youthprogram, she is a full time art teacher in Orchard ValleyMiddle School, Washington Township, New Jersey, where herpr<strong>of</strong>essional experience includes, a district wide workshopon creativity in drawing <strong>and</strong> curriculum development for themiddle school art program.Kirsten Fischler received a MFA in Painting fromPratt Institute <strong>and</strong> a BFA in Illustration from the RhodeIsl<strong>and</strong> School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Design</strong>. She also currently teaches drawing<strong>and</strong> interior design at Delaware <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> & <strong>Design</strong><strong>and</strong> previously has taught at Pratt Institute <strong>and</strong> WidenerUniversity. Her work has been exhibited throughout thePhiladelphia region, in New York <strong>and</strong> in Italy. She is includedin the book “100 <strong>Art</strong>ists <strong>of</strong> the Br<strong>and</strong>ywine Valley."Rich Harrington is assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> illustrationat <strong>Moore</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> & <strong>Design</strong> <strong>and</strong> has taught with<strong>Moore</strong>’s youth programs for more than ten years. Richhas an extensive teaching <strong>and</strong> exhibition resume <strong>and</strong> hasrepresented <strong>Moore</strong> <strong>College</strong> for many years at varioushigh school National Portfolio days. He is active with thePhiladelphia Sketch Club <strong>and</strong> Society <strong>of</strong> Illustrators in NewYork. General InformationWe hope our youth students will find their time at <strong>Moore</strong> <strong>College</strong> fun, stimulating <strong>and</strong> full<strong>of</strong> new challenges to learn <strong>and</strong> grow. Saturday classes are three hourseach week, providing 30 contact hours each semester. Flexible morning <strong>and</strong> afternoon classes areavailable. Students should plan to arrive approximately 15–20 minutes before the start <strong>of</strong> class onthe first day.EnrollmentClass size is kept small with a maximum <strong>of</strong> 12 students typically to allow for individual creativepursuits within a class structure.
