Almost everyschool now has one or more interactive whiteboards. Expectations arethat nearly every primary school classroom will be equipped with aninteractive whiteboard before long.• Wireless Internet and optical fiber connections are becoming standardat secondary schools and in the vocational education and trainingsector.Collaboration and leadership• Two thirds of teachers say that ICT use is a matter of personalpreference, and that there are no shared (school-wide) goals.• Approximately eight out of ten schools have an ICT policy plan. Abouthalf of these schools are actually implementing this plan.• At the moment, school managers are focusing on purchasinginfrastructure facilities and digital learning materials (materialfactors). In order to ensure that more teachers make better use of ICT,school managers would like to place put greater emphasis on teachers’professional development and on developing a pedagogical visionconcerning the use of ICT (human factors).8From use to better performance• There are solid foundations for using ICT in every sector of education.Schools can get more out of ICT by:1. adapting support to aims;2. using leadership to get followers involved;3. formalizing professional use;4. linking teacher, pupil and subject matter in a digital learningenvironment;5. knowing what works.
