7.3 ConnectivityWe make a d<strong>is</strong>t<strong>in</strong>ction between a school’s connection to the Internet, forexample by ADSL or optical cable, and its <strong>in</strong>ternal network (LAN) withshared Internet connectivity.Previous Monitor surveys revealed that almost every computer used <strong>in</strong>the education sector has Internet access. Eight out of ten secondary andvocational schools have an optical fiber connection to the Internet. That<strong>is</strong> not the case <strong>in</strong> primary education, where only three out of ten schoolshave an optical fiber connection (Figure 7.6).In terms of Internet access <strong>in</strong>side the school, virtually all vocationalschools and two thirds of secondary schools have wireless Internet.Wireless Internet <strong>is</strong> less common <strong>in</strong> primary education (Figure 7.6).
