Annual Planning Meeting Notes continuedgimmick rally that will start near Charlottesville and travel toLynchburg for lunch and a tour of Poplar Forest. People willhave the option of going back home or continuing south to thePeaks of Otter Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Afterbreakfast, people can head home directly or stop by the D-DayMemorial in Bedford as they drive toward their final destinations.For May 8th Dan Graff will lead the Tour de Madison County.He plans to start us at Montpelier, drive some scenic back roadswith a possible stop at a winery, and finish up with dinner at theBavarian Chef in Madison.On July 24th and 25th we are planning a joint driving tour withthe First Settlers and Blue Ridge regions up to the Green BankTelescope and Cass Scenic Railroad. People will have the optionof staying overnight in the area (Possibly at the Seneca Lodge inthe Snowshoe Resort Community or in the company houses inthe village of Cass). We are considering the option of makingthis a charity event where a fee is charged per car or peoplemake donations that will be given to a specified charity. Onecharity that was proposed was Special Olympics.entertainment for the children that attend this year. Any ideaswill be welcomed.We plan to end the year with another Holiday Party at MichieTavern. In 2009 we had a record of 83 people in attendance.Our first Social/Business Meeting will be held on Saturday,February 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Overstreet European Motors inGordonsville. Owner Paul Overstreet will show us his shop, talkto us a bit about what we can do to prepare our cars for thespring, and let us look at the Spec Miatas that he builds andraces. We will also review our calendar of events for <strong>2010</strong>.Afterward, we will drive down Main Street in Gordonsville andhave lunch at the Toliver House Restaurant.Our club has a great year of upcoming events. There should besomething for everyone from the racers to the members wholike to tour. I am looking forward to serving as your Secretaryagain this year. I would like to send out a big thank you to theofficers for all of their hard work and dedication to the club. Ihope we all have a very safe and happy year.Our fifteenth anniversary party will be hosted by the esteemedHerb Distefano on August 14th at his home on Lake Anna.More details will follow. A tour will start at Zion X Roads andlead us to the party.The Fall Foliage Tour is October 31st. Anyone who hasattended this event in the past knows how much of a treat thistour is. Phil and Susie really go out of their way to show us agood time. This year they will take us through the Afton area,down the Blue Ridge Parkway, by Wintergreen Resort, and to ourend point of lunch at the Devil’s Backbone Brewery in Roseland.Gary Hagar is hosting <strong>Porsche</strong>s and Pastrami again this yearat Durty Nelly’s Pub in Charlottesville. March 7th is the firstscheduled date. The event starts at 1:00 pm. If the weather isgood, he’ll take us on a short drive over to the Monticello Visitorand Smith Education centers. The other dates are May 2nd,August 1st, September 5th, October 3rd, and November 7th.Gary is very generous for letting us invade his restaurant!We also have many track opportunities throughout the yearthrough our club and sister clubs. The first track event is theZone 2 Drivers Education (DE) at VIR in Danville on March 12th– 14th.The Richmond <strong>Porsche</strong> Meet (RPM) will be held on June 5thand 6th this year. Saturday’s event will be hosted again bythe Faunces. They have generously donated the use of theirlawn and facilities again. We will especially need volunteersto help Alex Smith, our RPM coordinator, on Saturday to assistwith all the details in running an event this large. We will alsoneed judges for the concours car show on Saturday morning.Dave Lasch has proposed the idea of having two teams for thejudging this year to expedite the process for the judges. RickEbinger and Erik Boody promise another challenging autocrosson Sunday at the Southside Speedway. If anyone is interestedin volunteering for RPM, please let one of the officers know,and they will get you signed up! Alex puts so much into thisevent; it would be great if we could show him how manyvolunteers we can get this year.
