Women & Work <strong>Conference</strong> 2010Meeting Minutes – 12/14/09Committee Present: Kathy Buffaloe, Rose Gallegos, Peggy Morgan, StephanieForeman, Sheri Kunkel, Donna Summers, Rita Katsilometes, DianneNor<strong>to</strong>n, Will Fanning, Chris Brower Absent: Marlene Darling (sick) Carl McElhinneyFunding - $3,250 secured; thank-you’s sent <strong>to</strong> allKeynoteRead aloud Yvonne Perez’s extended bio.Publicity Brochure – We spent considerable time reviewing <strong>the</strong> draft of <strong>the</strong>brochure and making recommendations for improvement. The draft hadbeen sent <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> ISU committee for review and we went over <strong>the</strong>ircomments as well. Dianne will call Joey from ISU public relations <strong>to</strong>discuss revamping <strong>the</strong> brochure visually. The ISU committee feels like itis outdated. After all of <strong>the</strong> changes are made, Safari Graphics will printit for us by Mid- January. See attachment of <strong>the</strong> proposed changes fromboth <strong>the</strong> conference committee and <strong>the</strong> ISU committee. O<strong>the</strong>r – Chris has checked with Angela for publicity deadlines and willfollow up. Chris will check with <strong>the</strong> Idaho State Journal <strong>to</strong> see if <strong>the</strong>ywould be willing <strong>to</strong> sponsor an advertisement of <strong>the</strong> conference, perhapspaying for one week if we pay for one week.WorkshopsThe Workshop committee selected 10 workshops <strong>to</strong> present. All speakershave confirmed and workshop descriptions written.Discussed title for <strong>the</strong> physics workshop. Dianne will check withpresen<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong> see if he has a title he’d like <strong>to</strong> use. If not, we’ll use “MatterMatters!High Schools The “Save <strong>the</strong> Date” notices have been sent out by Stephanie. We discussed calling individual high schools when we get back fromChristmas vacation.


Fashion ShowDonna is checking with Carol Honas, Channel 8 in Idaho Falls, <strong>to</strong> host thisyear. If she is not available, it was suggested <strong>to</strong> check with local Channel6 (KPVI) <strong>to</strong> see if Brandi Baumgartner is available.A suggestion was made at <strong>the</strong> November meeting that for <strong>the</strong> “10 thAnnual” recognition, <strong>to</strong> have special decorations on <strong>the</strong> stage, a lazer idea(Kathy?),or perhaps a slide show of <strong>the</strong> last ten years of WWCs. Diannestates that we only have about 3 years of pho<strong>to</strong>s that we have takenbut she called ISU pho<strong>to</strong>graphy folks and <strong>the</strong>y said that <strong>the</strong>y doindeed have a number of year’s worth of pho<strong>to</strong>s. She asked for us <strong>to</strong>wait until after Christmas and <strong>the</strong>n come down and spend timelooking at what she has. They will only charge us a very small fee <strong>to</strong>use <strong>the</strong> pho<strong>to</strong>s.Donna let Peggy and Rita know that she will be out for surgery for twoweeks mid-January. That is right at <strong>the</strong> time when fashion show modelsshould be contacted and committed. Donna will organize who needs <strong>to</strong> becalled etc before she leaves for surgery, and Peggy and Rita will do <strong>the</strong>calling.Food & Centerpieces In November’s meeting, after some discussion, it was decided <strong>to</strong> select <strong>the</strong>“Club Sandwich” meal for $8.95, and which included choice of pota<strong>to</strong>salad or salad, chef’s choice dessert, and a drink. This will be a servedmeal, and should take less time than having a buffet. Centerpieces could include a placard stating “10 Top Reasons <strong>to</strong> go in<strong>to</strong> aNT <strong>Career</strong>,” plus some flowers. Sheri and Kathy figured out a lasercenterpiece at <strong>to</strong>day’s meeting.<strong>Career</strong> Exploration In process! In response <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> evaluation suggestions for more “hands-on”activities, <strong>the</strong> committee will look in<strong>to</strong> possible options.TotesTrades are again sponsoring <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>tes. Will need <strong>to</strong> order those in January.A request for turquoise or teal handles/print <strong>to</strong> match <strong>the</strong> brochure wasmade.LUNA company has confirmed.CND promo items (blue clips w/light)were ordered for <strong>the</strong> NT AnnualStudent Recognition Luncheon and will also be used <strong>to</strong> include in <strong>the</strong><strong>to</strong>tes.We discussed <strong>the</strong> idea of having a girl- scout group who may need avolunteer project organize <strong>the</strong> paperwork that will go inside <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>tes.Kathy will check in<strong>to</strong> that.


PrizesWorking on it! Inquiries will be made <strong>to</strong> major retail organizations(Lowe’s, Home Depot, Cal Ranch, etc.) before <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> year (Sheri& Donna). Discussed Jannie helping out with this.Ideas for 10 th Annual acknowledgment (See Fashion Show and Centerpieces) Stilllooking for o<strong>the</strong>r ideas.Meeting scheduleThe remainder of our meetings will be held at 3:30 and in <strong>the</strong> same classroom we’vebeen meeting in. Meeting schedule for Jan.
