Child and Adolescent PsychiatryDivisionThe Child Psychiatry Division offers a range of outpatient individual,group, family and multiple family therapy services as well aspsychopharmacologic treatment for anxiety, mood, attentiondeficit and other disorders. The Child Division has two specialtyclinics: the Pediatric Stress and Anxiety Disorders Clinic, and thePediatric Mood Disorders Clinic. The Division has a ChildPsychiatry Consultation and Liaison Service which provides inpatientand outpatient services. In collaboration with theDepartment of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the Divisionhas a nine-bed adolescent unit and an outreach team for DCFSwards with severe psychiatric disorders.Tomas Wright, MD, Director ofChild & Adolescent FellowshipProgramMani Pavuluri, MD, Director ofPediatric Mood Disorders ClinicChild and adolescent psychiatry training takes place primarily inthe second postgraduate year. A 10-month seminar covering allmajor topics in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry takes place duringPGY-2. This seminar uses faculty from the department as wellas outside the department. Additionally, during PGY-2, residentsrotate full time for two months in the Child and AdolescentPsychiatry Division. During this rotation residents gain experiencein inpatient and outpatient evaluation and management of childhooddisorders in a variety of settings. A specialty inpatient unitfor adolescents provides a basis of education for adolescent psychiatrythroughout the training.Outpatient treatment training continues into the third postgraduateyear. Caseloads in child, adolescent, and family therapy aredeveloped. A six-month seminar and supervision opportunity infamily therapy provides the foundation for working with families.Child and adolescent outpatients can be seen into the fourth yearof residency.CHILD FELLOWSHIP:A fully accredited three-yearfellowship in child and adolescentpsychiatry is also available.Eight fellows in child andadolescent psychiatry also aidfaculty in teaching and supervisionof residents.
