INSURED PERILSRefers to the following:1. FIRE, LIGHTNING, THUNDERBOLT, SUBTERRANEAN FIRE2. EXPLOSION3. AIRCRAFT and other aerial devices and/or articles dropped therefrom4. IMPACT with the Building by any road vehicle, horses or cattle notbelonging to or under the control of the Insured or any memberof his Family.5. BURSTING OR OVERFLOWING OF DOMESTIC WATER TANKS,APPARATUS OR PIPES excluding:(a) damage thereto(b) loss or damage occurring while the Building is left unoccupiedfor more than 60 consecutive days.(c) subsidence or landslip.6. THEFT but only if accompanied by actual forcible and violentbreaking into or out of the Building but excluding loss or damageoccurring while the Building is left unoccupied for more than 60consecutive days.7. RIOTS, CIVIL COMMOTION or ACTS OF STRIKERS or locked outworkers or persons taking part in labour disturbance.8. MALICIOUS damage, whether or not such act is committed inthe course of a disturbance of the public peace excluding loss ordamage occurring whilst the Building is left unoccupied for morethan 60 days.9. EARTHQUAKE or VOLCANIC ERUPTION, including Flood orOverflow of the Sea occasioned thereby, but excluding landslipor subsidence10. HURRICANE, CYCLONE, TYPHOON or WINDSTORM includingFlood or Overflow of the Sea occasioned thereby, excluding:(a) any building in the course of construction, reconstruction orrepair (unless all outside doors, windows and other openingsthereto are complete and protected against perils)(b) landslip or subsidencePERSONAL EFFECTSArticles of personal use designed specifically to be worn or carriede.g. clothing & camera equipment etc excluding money, handphones,pagers, portable computers/diaries and items that are used inconnection with any business profession or employment and itemsinsured under a separate policy.MEDICAL PRACTITIONERA person qualified by degree in Western medicine and duly licensedor registered to practice medicine and surgery in the geographicalarea of his/her practice, and in rendering such services is practicingwithin the scope of his/her license and training but excluding aMedical Practitioner who is the Insured Person or the Relative oremployee of the Insured PersonMONEYBank or currency notes, coins, cheques, travellers’ cheques, traveltickets, postal or money orders, postage stamps belonging to theInsured and/or any member of his Family and/or domestic maidnormally residing with him or for which he is legally responsible.RELATIVEThe Insured Person’s spouse, child, parent, grandparent, sibling,parent-in-law, grandparent-in-law, brother/sister-in- law ordaughter/ son-in-law.UNINHABITABLEImpairment to the Building whereby the premises poses health and/or safety hazard and endangers the Insured.VALUABLESJewellery, watches, antiques, paintings, furs, works of art, curios,stamps or coin collections, items of gold, silver, platinum or otherprecious metals.SECTION 1 – CONTENTSThe Corporation will indemnify the Insured by payment,reinstatement, replacement or repair against loss or damage tothe Household Contents, Valuables and other Personal Effectsbelonging to the Insured and/or any member of his Family and/or domestic servant normally residing with him or for which he islegally responsible, whilst contained in the Building and causedby any of the Insured Perils. This Section is arranged on a first lossbasis, it being understood that the Corporation shall pay losses upto the Sum Insured stated in the Schedule without the applicationof average.The liability of the Corporation for loss or damage to Valuables shallnot exceed: S$2,000 for any one article unless specially agreed hereinand 25% of the total sum insured under Section 1 unless specificallyagreed herein.The liability of the Corporation for loss or damage to the HouseholdContents, Valuables and other Personal Effects arising out of theftshall not exceed 25% of the total Sum Insured under the Sectionunless specifically agreed herein.Provided always that the maximum liability of the Corporation underSection 1 shall not exceed the Sum Insured specified in the Schedule.PAIR AND SET CLAUSEWhere an insured item consists of articles in a pair or set, theCorporation shall not pay more than the value of any particular part orparts which may be lost or damaged, without reference to any specialvalue which the article may have as part of such pair or set, nor morethan a proportional part of the Sum Insured of the pair or set.EXTENSIONS TO SECTION 1REPLACEMENT OF LOCKS AND KEYSThe Corporation will indemnify the Insured up to the limit specifiedon the Schedule for the cost of replacement of locks and keysdamaged as a result of actual forcible and violent breaking into orout of the Building or any attempt thereat.2ValueHome CoverMay 2013
REMOVAL OF DEBRISThe Corporation will indemnify the Insured up to the limit specifiedon the Schedule for costs or expenses necessarily incurred in theremoval of debris of the property under the policy destroyed ordamaged by any of the Insured Perils.DETERIORATION OF FOOD AND DRINKS IN REFRIGERATOR OR FREEZERThe Corporation will indemnify the Insured up to the limit specifiedon the Schedule for the loss of or damage to food and drinks containedin any refrigerator which is less than five years old and installed inthe Building caused by deterioration resulting from breakdown orexplosion of such refrigeration or non-operation of any thermostaticor automatic controlling devices pertaining therein.The liability of the Corporation in any one period of insurance shallnot exceed the limit specified on the Schedule.This extension does not cover loss or damage caused by(a) a deliberate act or negligence of the Insured.(b) the failure of the electricity supply as a direct or indirectconsequence of the deliberate act by the supply authority and/or their employees.(c) disconnection of the electricity supply whether unintentional orotherwise at the Building in which the refrigerator is contained.LOSS OF MONEY DUE TO FORCIBLE ENTRYThe Corporation will indemnify the Insured up to the limit specifiedon the Schedule for the loss of money, ATM cards, Credit Cards,belonging to the Insured and/or any member of his family and/ordomestic servant normally residing with him as a result of forcibleentry whilst kept in the Building used solely as a private residenceup to an amount not exceeding the limit specified on the Schedule.LOSS OR DAMAGE TO MOBILE/SMART PHONES & PORTABLECOMPUTERS/DIARIESThe Corporation will indemnify the Insured up to the limit specifiedon the Schedule for the loss of or damage to mobile phones, pagersand portable computers/ diaries/personal digital assistants causedby any of the Insured Perils whilst contained in the Building.EXCLUSIONS TO SECTION 1The Corporation will not be liable in respect of:(a) inherent fault, latent defect or faulty workmanship, defectivedesign or use of defective materials.(b) any loss, destruction or damage as a result of the Buildingawaiting or undergoing renovation, maintenance, alteration orextension, construction or demolition.(c) unexplained loss or mysterious disappearance.(d) theft or any attempt thereat by the Insured and / or members ofhis Family and / or domestic servant or at the time of sustainingsuch injury is engaged in and under a contract of service orcontract for service verbal or otherwise with the Insured.BASIS OF SETTLEMENTThe basis of settlement of any claim shall be as follows:(a) for partial damage, the cost of reasonable and economicalrepair to a condition substantially the same as but not better ormore extensive than the condition when new. If such repair isnot carried out within 12 months from date of occurrence, theCorporation will settle claims on indemnity basis i.e. the costof reasonable and economical repair of damaged item less anamount for wear and tear or depreciation.(b) for total loss, if the item damaged or lost is not more than three(3) years old at the date of loss, the full cost of the replacementitem will be indemnified provided always that the replacementitem is substantially the same as but not better or moreextensive than the item damaged or lost when new. If the itemdamaged or lost is more than three (3) years at the date of lossor is less than three (3) years but not replaced within 12 monthsfrom date of loss, the cost of a comparable replacement item lessan appropriate allowance for the age and condition of the itemdamaged or lost will be indemnified.SECTION 2 – WORLDWIDE PERSONAL LIABILITYThe Corporation will indemnify the Insured and/or his spouse and/or up to 3 biological or legally adopted children up to the Limits ofLiability as stated in the Schedule against all sums for which theymay be legally liable including legal costs and expenses in respect of:(a) Accidental Bodily Injury (including death) to third parties; or(b) Accidental loss and/or damage to property belonging to third parties,occurring during the Period of Insurance subject to the TerritorialLimits as stated herein for this Section.LIMITS OF INDEMNITYThe liability of the Corporation for compensation under Section 2shall not exceed the limit of indemnity as stated in the Schedulein the aggregate for all claims in respect of or arising out of oneoccurrence or in respect of or arising out of all occurrences of a seriesconsequent on or attributable to one source or original cause.In addition, in respect of a claim to which the indemnity expressed inthis Section applies, the Corporation will pay:(a) all costs and expenses of litigation recovered by any claimantagainst the Insured and/or his spouse.(b) all costs and expenses of litigation incurred with the writtenconsent of the Corporation.In the event of the death of the Insured and/or his spouse and/ortheir biological or legally adopted children, the Corporation will, inrespect of the liability incurred by the Insured and/or his spouse and/or their biological or legally adopted children, indemnify his legalrepresentatives in the terms of and subject to the limitations of this<strong>Policy</strong> provided that such legal representatives shall as though theywere the Insured and/or his spouse observe, fulfill and be subject tothe terms exceptions and conditions of this <strong>Policy</strong> in so far as theycan apply.EXCLUSIONS TO SECTION 2The Corporation shall not be liable in respect of(a) bodily injury to any person being a member of the Insured’sFamily and / or domestic servant or at the time of sustaining suchinjury is engaged in and under a contract of service or contractfor service verbal or otherwise with the Insured.3ValueHome CoverMay 2013
